Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, SIld disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. Inhaltsangabe:Einleitung: In dieser Diplomarbeit wird ein Revitalisierungskonzept für einen ausgewählten Teilbereich des alten Stadthafens der Stadt Victoria erarbeitet. Die Seehafenstadt Victoria befindet sich an der kanadischen Pazifikküste auf der südlichen Spitze Vancouver Islands und ist die Provinzhauptstadt der Provinz British Columbia . Bei dem Projektbereich dieser Arbeit handelt es sich um die innenstadtnahen überwiegend brachgefallenen Areale der rund 70 Hektar umfassenden Songhees Halbinsel , einem ehemaligen Industriegebiet. Seit Anfang der 1980er Jahre wurden immer mehr Sägewerke in diesem Bereich des Hafens geschlossen. Mit dem Schließen des letzten Sägewerkes im Jahr 1989 sind auch die Schienenanlagen für den Holztransport und das Be- und Entladen der Schiffe überflüssig geworden. Lediglich ein Lokomotivschuppen Gebäudekomplex in der typischen Backsteinarchitektur erinnert an die einstige industrielle Nutzung der Songhees Halbinsel. In den letzten Jahren ziehen nun zunehmend Wohn- und Freizeitnutzungen in diesen Teil des Hafengebietes ein. Durch Lärmemission, Bodenkontaminierung und den Zuliefer- und Abtransportverkehr des angrenzenden Industriehafens sowie durch die unattraktiven brachliegenden Uferzonen kollidieren die Interessen der Tourismus- und Freizeitindustrie und der Anwohnerschaft nun zunehmend mit den industriellen Nutzungen. Trotz der räumlichen Nähe der Songhees Halbinsel zum Downtownbereich, dem überwiegend touristisch genutzten inneren Hafenbeckens und den umfangreichen Freiflächen an den Uferzonen, bestehen bis zu diesem Zeitpunkt unüberwindbare Zäsuren - insbesondere mentale Barrieren - neue Nutzungen für diesen Bereich zu entwickeln. Nach einer ausführlichen Bestandsaufnahme der Stadtgeschichte, der kanadischen Planungskultur, der bestehenden Planungen, der Grundbesitzverhältnisse, der Nutzungs- und Bevölkerungsstruktur und der gemeinnützigen und unternehmerischen Einrichtungen und einer detaillierten Problem- und Potentialanalyse wird zunächst ein übergreifendes Revitalisierungskonzept für den Gesamtbereich der Songhees Halbinsel erarbeitet. Anhand eines Alternativszenarios wird ein nachhaltiges Nutzungskonzept für die Songhees Halbinsel entwickelt, welches als Diskussionspapier für den Revitalisierungsprozeß der Akteure vor Ort zu verstehen ist. Für die zentrale Fläche des ehemaligen Lokomotivschuppen Gebäudekomplexes und das angrenzende Grundstück wird ein städtebaulicher Entwurf angefertigt, [...]
