Nurse job satisfaction has been the major predictor of intent to leave. However, little is known about influence of variable nurse attitudes, such as personal and structural empowerment, hence the conduct of this study. This study aims to establish relationship between empowerment, job satisfaction and intent to leave which are factors that affect the turnover rate of the hospital. The research, which follows a descriptive rational design, was conducted in three tertiary hospitals in Iloilo CIty. The respondents of study consist of staff from selected tertiary hospitals. The computed sample size is 150 respondents which were selected through stratified random sampling. A four part questionnaire was utilized. The first part was the personal information sheet. The second part is the psychological and structural empowerment scale while the third part is the job satisfactory questionnaire. The last part is the intent to leave questionnaire. Persons's product moment and chi-square were used to measure the relationship of the variables. The mean age is 27 years old while the mean length of tenure is 32 months. Most of the respondents were female, single, with BSN degree and work in the morning shift. The findings show that age, sex, civil status, educational attainment, working shift and length of tenure can also be associated with the intent to leave. Results yield that job satisfaction has a significant relationship with personal and structural empowerment. However, contrary to previous studies conducted in other countries, job satisfaction has no association with the intent to leave. In additional to that, personal empowerment has no significant relationship with the intent to leave. As a conclusion, job satisfaction, personal and structural empowerment does not affect intent to leave. There are staff nurses who gave high levels of job satisfaction and are highly empowered but still probably leave employment. Further studies should be conducted to explore other reasons for intent to leave.

The military nurse serves in the dual role of nurse and officer creating a unique perspective of professional development. Previous studies have demonstrated a positive relationship between satisfaction with staff development activities and the selected variables of job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and the intent to remain in an organization. The purpose of this study has been to explore these relationships in a military nurse population. Five questions were asked in this research. What is the perceived level of satisfaction with staff development activities among Air Force staff nurses at a Midwest Regional Medical Center? What is the level of organizational commitment of staff nurses at an Air Force Regional Medical Center? What is the level of overall job satisfaction among staff nurses at an Air Force Regional Medical Center? What is the level of intent to remain among Air Force staff nurses at a Midwest Regional Medical Center? What is the relationship between the perceived level of satisfaction with staff development activities and (a) organizational commitment, (b) overall work satisfaction, (c) intent to remain, and (d) selected demographic variables among Air Force staff nurses at a Midwest Regional Medical Center? The theoretical framework of this research is based on Herzberg's theory of motivation. Job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and the intent to remain with an organization are conceptualized as the intermediate variables linking the perception of staff development and nurse retention. During monthly nursing unit staff meetings at a Midwest regional Air Force medical center 50 staff nurses from three different inpatient units completed a questionnaire comprised of the Satisfaction with Educational Opportunity Scale, the Job Description Index, and the Intent to Remain Scale.

This study investigated how engagement, job satisfaction, and intrinsic motivation will affect retention among nurses. A sample of 150 nurses (CNAs, LPNs, and RNs) employed at medical centers in Sioux City (IA-SD-NE) and Carbondale, Illinois was selected using cluster random sampling. Employee engagement (Independent-Variable1) was measured against the Utrecht Work Engagement Survey (UWES), job satisfaction (Independent-Variable 2) was measured against the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ), and intrinsic motivation (Independent-Variable3) was measured against the Intrinsic Motivation Inventory (IMI). The study followed a sequential transformative design, with all research questions or hypotheses examined through multinomial regression, which indicated the odds ratio of nurses' decision or intent to leave or stay against leaving their current position. The regression analysis showed that intrinsic motivation and job satisfaction were significantly more likely to predict nurses' intent to leave than employee engagement. The interviews showed employee engagement, job satisfaction, and intrinsic motivation to be an important part of the nurses' decision to leave or stay.

Nursing assistants are an important part of the healthcare team in hospitals. However, there has been little research about the antecedents of job satisfaction and intent to leave of nursing assistants in hospitals. The limited amount of research related to job satisfaction of nursing assistants has been done with nursing assistants in nursing homes. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between job satisfaction and intent to leave in hospital based nursing assistant in North Carolina. In addition, the influence of personal characteristics, role related characteristics and job characteristics were examined. The study used a descriptive correlational survey design using the Hospital Nursing Assistant Job Satisfaction Questionnaire. Participants in this study were most satisfied with the work content, coworkers, workplace support, and work schedule. Data revealed a significant relationship between intent to leave, education level and hospital tenure. The strongest predictors for job satisfaction were work schedule, coworkers, chances for more training, and on the job training. The strongest predictors for intent to leave were workplace support, work schedule, and recommend the hospital to a friend. This study represents a beginning understanding of the factors that are associated with job satisfaction and intent to leave of nursing assistants in the hospital setting. Job satisfaction and intent to leave variables have been identified and need further examination to insure that nursing assistants are retained and productive members of the healthcare team.

To identify the factors of job satisfaction and stress of nurses and their association with turnover intention rate in an acute hospital in Hong Kong. Background. Heavy workload, shortage of manpower and high turnover rate of nurse are the major problems in Hong Kong particularly in public hospitals even after measures have been taken to tackle them in recent years. Many studies in western countries showed that workload, turnover rate, stress, satisfaction level and turnover intention of nurse were associated. However there are few studies in Asian countries. This information is needed to provide policymakers evidence to formulate particular policy to deal with these problems. Design. This is a cross sectional study. Survey data were collected from nurses in the medical ward, operation theatre and intensive care unit of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital in Hong Kong. Methods. A snowball convenience sampling method was used to collect samples from the selected departments. My colleagues in the select departments referred participants to me. Packet of questionnaire was distributed to the participants and the questionnaire was self - administered .The survey questionnaires, including the Expanded Nursing Stress Scale (ENSS), Job Satisfaction Scale (JSS) and Anticipated Turnover Scale (ATS), were used to collect data from the sampled subjects. Results. Mean scores of ENSS, JSS and ATS of the respondents were 140.77 out of 228, 114.12 out of 216 and 49.48 out of 84 respectively. These indicated that respondents had high stress and high intention to leave level but mild satisfaction level. It also revealed that there was inverse relationship between stress and satisfaction level (r = -0.23, 95% CI: -0.46 to -0.02) and between satisfaction level and intention to leave level (-0.41, 95% CI: -0.62 to -0.19). Conclusion. There is some evidence of high stress level and intention to leave in nurses working in public hospital while their satisfaction level is in a moderate level. Stress level, satisfaction level and intention to leave level in nurses are associated. The management should adopt an evidence - based approach in improving the work environment for nurses. Even though the generalization of this study is weak, it is useful for the hospital to deal with the human resource problems of nurses.
