The current attention on decentralized governance worldwide, particularly in Africa is aimed at spreading development at the local level. Such intensions have often been marred by conflicts. Ghana has faced such challenges. Planning Authorities have been empowered by law (Act 462 in Ghana) to plan to overcome development challenges. Unfortunately conflicts have not been noticed as a serious development issue and hence not plan for. This book notes that Ghana, especially Bawku have experienced sustained local conflicts because pre- conflicts and post-conflicts management have not been put into planning perspective. The book concludes that collaborative approach was a good option for conflict management and that this effort will only be effective by designing an institutionalized conflict management plans and capitalization of such plans. This book is useful for policy formulators, planning professionals, academics, local government units and NGOs in community development work.

Research Paper (postgraduate) from the year 2010 in the subject Didactics - Common Didactics, Educational Objectives, Methods, University of Cape Coast (Institute of Educational Planning and Adminsitration), course: Educational Adminsitration, language: English, abstract: Manging conflicts has become a serious issue gloablly and promting school leaders to be proactive in this domain of their adminstrative tasks is deemd a step in the right direction. The study sought to find out how Head teachers are dealing with conflict issues as they emerge in their day to day administrative duties. In all ten (10) Head teachers, one hundred (100) Teachers and nine (9) Circuit Supervisors took part in the study. Questionnaires, interviews, and observations were instruments used for data collection. The studies showed that majority of primary school Head teachers have not received orientation on conflict management since their appointment into office. In addition, most Head teachers saw conflict situations as opportunities for growth and self-development, however, they held to the view that it should not be entertained in schools. Further findings pointed to the fact that Head teachers seems to lacked knowledge on conflict management issues in the academic and professional context, yet the perceived shortcomings have not adversely affected their practical conflict management activities in school. Based on the results of the study, it is proposed that; prior to their appointment Head teachers should be given orientation and training in conflict management; that issues of conflict management should be highlighted in the mainstream educational administration and leadership in schools. Finally, it is recommended that the Education Offices should conduct periodic survey on the state of interpersonal relations in schools and inject into the system the needed interventions where applicable.

There has been a resurgence of interest in training programmes for higher education leaders and management (HELM) at African universities in recent times. Although there have been a few cases of evaluation studies of such programmes in Africa, a more systematic review of the lessons learnt through these programmes has not been done. This book aims to document and reflect on the learnings from intervention programmes at three African higher education councils. It is clear that university leaders face many leadership and management challenges. This is the starting point of the book.

Master's Thesis from the year 2017 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: Peace and Conflict Studies, Security, grade: 3.00, course: Msc Defence and International Politics, language: English, abstract: This study examines the causes of electoral conflicts in Ghana and Africa, and the role and challenges of the National Peace Council in resolving election-related conflicts. In many African countries, both the economic and political authorities are confiscated and held in the hands of some corrupt leaders who through the use of force control the destiny of their countries. Since the adoption of multiparty systems in some African countries, most elections have been tarnished by violence and by political antagonists who continue to question not only the fairness and the transparency of elections but also the validity of the electoral systems of their countries. Ghana's elections for some time now have become violent resulting in disputes. A typical case of this situation was the 2012 elections which ended up in the Supreme Court as a dispute. In all of these conflicts, the role of the National Peace Council cannot be over-emphasized. The Council played an important role before, during and after elections. This contributed in the peace that the Ghana experienced during and after elections. In the light of the key role of the Council played in ensuring peace before, during and after elections, there are a number of challenges that confronted the Council. This study examines the specific role played by the National Peace Council (NPC) in ensuring peace in elections. The study discussed the challenges that affected the work of the Council such as limited funding to initiate activities and inadequate staff to help carry out its functions. The methodology adopted in this study is the qualitative case study approach which enabled the study to analyze the findings by relying mostly on secondary data to make its findings. Regional Policy And Regional Planning In Ghana written by Sam Ofori and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-11-22 with Social Science categories.

This title was first published in 2002: This work is about the socio-economic and spatial impacts of planning policy aimed at improving the living standards and well-being of the regional communities of Ghana. Implicit, the effectiveness assessment of regional planning practice. It is set within the context of the new national planning system and offers strategic opportunities and challenges. Characteristically, the national and regional policies and contacts are probed and the lack of formal regional plan-making stressed. The author critically analyzes the problem of socio-economic and spatial disparities, over the mid-60s to the early 1990s, explaining the observed changes. The latter is, differentiatingly, done in terms of relevant theories and the empirics undertaken. These include the fashion of perception and conceptualization of development. Change is based on one-off micro-projects at the regional level and a meso-regional project within a sub-regional context. Dr Ofori equally stresses the implementations and local management of the planning policies and programmes. Inclusive in the dynamics behind the processes is the role of partnership. A further distinctive contribution is the identification of opportunities for planning intervention and policy recommendations for a better change in the future: towards making things happen.
