In the year 70 A.D., after destroying Jerusalem and its temple, Emperor Vespasian and his Roman army stole the menorah and the rest of the temple’s treasures. Immediately after this war, Vespasian started construction of the Colosseum of Rome and issued a series of gold coins, aurei, with his image on the front and the image of a captured woman, representing Palestine, and the inscription Judea Capta on the back.\r\nRecently, a marble plaque was discovered, buried next to the walls of the Colosseum of Rome, with the following words written in Latin: This great building was financed by the spoils of the war with Palestine. With great certainty, this shows us that Emperor Vespasian used the gold of the menorah and the rest of the treasures from the Temple in Jerusalem to mint gold coins, aurei, with his image and the inscription Judea Capta, to commemorate his victory over Palestine. \r\nIn this historical fiction novel, the museum in Jerusalem, with the help of a wise rabbi and the country’s authorities, began a worldwide search to purchase these Vespasian coins with the inscription Judea Capta to return the menorah with its gold from Israel’s history to Jerusalem. \r\nThe recovery of the menorah, with its original gold, and the destruction of Vespasian’s images, which were on the coins, would fulfil ancient prophecies about the menorah’s return and the destruction of the emperor’s images. \r\n

Between Exile And Return written by Anne Golomb Hoffman and has been published by State University of New York Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-02-01 with History categories.

This innovative study of the modern Hebrew writer, S. Y. Agnon, offers new insight into his literary transformations of Jewish themes and sources. With particular attention to Kafka, Hoffman situates Agnon in the context of twentieth-century literature and examines such central issues in Agnon's art as the relationship of the literary text to traditions of sacred writings, the place of the book in culture, and the relationship of writing to the body. Agnon's writing moves between exile and return, enacting dramas of presence and absence, and attachment and loss. From the images of sacred texts found in some of his short fiction to the ideological conflicts that inform his larger novels, this book traces the geographical-cultural sweep of Agnon's writing, as it moves through Eastern and Western Europe, positioning the Diaspora in relation to a Jerusalem that is both mundane and spiritual. Hoffman examines the ways in which Agnon's writing produces an autobiographical myth that joins the figure of the writer to the life-history of the larger community of Israel. Moving from stories of writer and writing to the broader cultural canvas of several major novels, the author concludes with an analysis of the ways in which the fiction prompts interrogation of major cultural constructions concerning gender, the formative passage of the subject through the Oedipus complex, and the dissociation of culture from the body.

The Unity Of The Bible written by Duane L. Christensen and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-09-22 with Religion categories.

This landmark work represents an imaginative and important new analysis of the basic development of the Scriptures through the centuries. Christensen explores the overall unity of the entire Bible, not just as a collection of sixty-six or seventy-two individual books, nor just as the Old and New Testaments, but as a single literary work that comprises today’s Christian Bible. He shows how it emerged over the course of centuries in distinct stages. The Hebrew Scriptures or Old Testament developed in three steps from the formation of the Pentateuch and Prophets that took place up to the time of Josiah in the seventh century B.C.E., followed by the production of the Deuteronomic Canon during and following the Exile, and then the completion of the whole Hebrew Canon as we now have it. This was followed by a second major phase – the development of the Apostolic writings to be added to the First Testament as a Second (or New) Testament. After tracing the growth of the Bible in these stages, Christensen examines the structure and literary art of each major section from the Pentateuch (Torah) to the New Testament.

Public Relations And Nation Building written by Margalit Toledano and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-09-02 with Business & Economics categories.

All public relations emerges from particular environments, but the specific conditions of Israel offer an exceptional study of the accelerators and inhibitors of professional development in the history of a nation. Documenting and analyzing the contribution of one profession to building one specific nation, this book tells the previously-untold story of Israeli public relations practitioners. It illustrates their often-unseen, often-unacknowledged and often-strategic shaping of the events, narratives and symbols of Israel over time and their promotion of Israel to the world. It links the profession’s genesis – including the role of the Diaspora and early Zionist activists – to today’s private and public sector professionals by identifying their roots in Israel’s cultural, economic, media, political, and social systems. It reveals how professional communicators and leaders nurtured and valued collectivism, high consensus, solidarity, and unity over democracy and free speech. It investigates such key underpinning concepts as Hasbara and criticizes non-democratic and sometimes unethical propaganda practices. It highlights unprecedented fundraising and lobbying campaigns that forged Israeli identity internally and internationally. In situating Israeli ideas on democracy in the context of contemporary public relations theory, Public Relations and Nation Building seeks to point ways forward for that theory, for Israel and for the public relations of many other nations.
