The Easter Rising of 1916 had a lasting effect upon Ireland, with many viewing it as a watershed in the history of modern Ireland and concurring with Yeats that a «terrible beauty was born». Seeking to clarify the state of nationalist opinion in the period before the Rising, Genesis of the Rising is as much an undertaking in social psychology as it is a social and political history. It strives to debunk many longstanding theories, most significantly the turning of the tide thesis, which asserts that British blunders in the wake of the failed Rising turned the tide in public opinion toward the course envisioned by the Rebels. Genesis of the Rising contends that as early as 1912, with the introduction of the Third Home Rule Bill, through the start of the Great War, and right up to Easter 1916, the tide in nationalist opinion had been turning, albeit silently, and that the Rising was a catalytic force that accelerated an already ongoing process. It reveals a dichotomy in nationalist opinion between covert views and misleading, overt opinion when it suggests that it was the Rising and the executions that subsequently forced nationalist opinion to show its true colors. In effect, the tide had begun to turn long before Easter 1916; and constitutional nationalism, as represented by the Third Home Rule Bill and the Irish Parliamentary Party, was giving way to some aspect of physical-force nationalism.

1919 was a year of revolution. In the aftermath of the First World War, people across the globe rose up against their governments, demanding change. From Europe to Asia to the Americas, revolutions erupted, each with its own unique causes and consequences. This book tells the story of these revolutions, examining the factors that led to them, the events that unfolded, and the impact they had on the world. It explores the social and economic discontent that fueled the revolutions, the rise of radical ideologies, and the impact of the Russian Revolution. The book also examines the aftermath of the revolutions, exploring how they shaped the world we live in today. It looks at the rise of fascism and communism, the Second World War and the Cold War, and the continuing struggle for social justice. But what if things had turned out differently? What if the Spartacist Uprising in Germany had succeeded? What if the Hungarian Soviet Republic had lasted longer? What if Ireland had gained its independence in 1919? This book also explores alternate histories, imagining what might have happened if the revolutions had taken a different course. It asks what lessons we can learn from the past, and how we can apply them to the challenges we face today. **The Spark of Revolution** is a thought-provoking and insightful look at one of the most tumultuous years in world history. It is a must-read for anyone interested in history, politics, or social change. If you like this book, write a review on google books!

Changing Course In Latin America written by Kenneth M. Roberts and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with Political Science categories.

This book explores the impact of economic crises and free-market reforms on party systems and political representation in contemporary Latin America. It explains why some patterns of market reform align and stabilize party systems, whereas other patterns of reform leave party systems vulnerable to widespread social protest and electoral instability. In contrast to other works on the topic, this book accounts for both the institutionalization and the breakdown of party systems, and it explains why Latin America turned to the Left politically in the aftermath of the market-reform process. Ultimately, it explains why this "left turn" was more radical in some countries than others and why it had such varied effects on national party systems.

Drawing on a wide range of sources, from ancient texts to modern scholarship, this book provides a unique and insightful perspective on one of the most important and enduring aspects of human society. In **Warrior Chronicles**, Pasquale De Marco argues that war is not simply a matter of two sides fighting each other. Each of these actors has their own interests and motivations, and these interests and motivations can often conflict with each other. As a result, war is often a very messy and unpredictable affair. The Unseen Struggle Unveiling The Hidden History Of Anticommunism In America written by Pasquale De Marco and has been published by Pasquale De Marco this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-07-14 with History categories.

Anticommunism has been a powerful force in American history, shaping everything from foreign policy to domestic politics to cultural values. But what is anticommunism, and how has it affected the United States? In this groundbreaking book, Pasquale De Marco explores the history of anticommunism in America, from its roots in the early 20th century to its resurgence in recent years. Pasquale De Marco argues that anticommunism is not simply a reaction to the threat of communism, but a complex ideology that has been used to justify a wide range of political, economic, and social policies. Pasquale De Marco shows how anticommunism has been used to justify everything from the Palmer Raids and the McCarthy hearings to the Vietnam War and the War on Terror. Pasquale De Marco also examines the impact of anticommunism on American society, both positive and negative. Pasquale De Marco argues that anticommunism has led to a decline in civil liberties, a rise in political repression, and a climate of fear and suspicion. But Pasquale De Marco also shows that anticommunism has had some positive effects. For example, anticommunism helped to unite Americans against a common enemy during the Cold War. It also led to the development of new technologies and industries, such as the computer and the internet. Pasquale De Marco concludes that anticommunism is a complex and contradictory ideology that has had a profound impact on American history. Pasquale De Marco calls for a more nuanced understanding of anticommunism, one that recognizes both its positive and negative effects. **The Unseen Struggle** is a must-read for anyone who wants to understand American history and the forces that have shaped it.
