This new whimsical collection of verse sees birds and other small creatures through a child's eyes in the morning. Then at noon, we are challenged to stay strong for the steep roads we must run in the heat of the day. The final section walks through the struggles as well as the hope God gives us in old age. Our walk with God leads from sunrise to evening shadows. Skipping along with Jesus in the morning, changes to pacing ourselves in a race at noon. Yet even in the heat of the mid-day sun, He comes alongside, urging us to run our best. When the cooler breezes of evening blow, it is not time to slack off or give in to weariness. The finish line is almost in sight! Here, we discover that His promise that He would never leave or forsake us is true and that He always will be with us on the road that leads us home!

All roads lead to home. It’s easy to go through life believing that we can satisfy our longing for home with a three-bedroom, two-bath slice of the American dream that we mortgage at 4 percent and pay for over the course of thirty years. But ultimately, in our deepest places, we’re really looking to belong and to be known. And what we sometimes miss in our search for the perfect spot to set up camp is that wherever we are on the long and winding road of life, God is at work in the journey, teaching us, shaping us, and refining us—sometimes through the most unlikely people and circumstances. In Home Is Where My People Are, Sophie Hudson takes readers on a delightfully quirky journey through the South, introducing them to an unforgettable cast of characters, places, and experiences. Along the way, she reflects on how God has used each of the stops along the road to impart timeless spiritual wisdom and truth. Nobody embodies the South like Sophie Hudson, and this nostalgic celebration of home is sure to make even those north of the Mason-Dixon line long to settle in on the front porch with a glass of sweet tea and reflect on all of the people in our lives who—related or not—have come to represent home. Because at the end of the day, it’s not the address on the front door or even the name on the mailbox that says home, but the people who live and laugh and love there, wherever there might happen to be.

This is an intriguing and inspiring collection of devotionals based on messages gleaned from signs along the roads we travel. It can be meaningful to adults, fascinating to children, and even helpful to youth learning to drive. Each message is supported by words of wisdom from the ancient Book of Proverbs. If we will just slow down and observe, even something as seemingly mundane as a road sign can convey a powerful lesson. "Mr. Brown, in the future, I would appreciate it if you would pay attention to them (road signs) and act accordingly." As he handed me the ticket, he said, 'Have a good day.'" -North Carolina State Trooper "My goodness, Bernie, this is amazing. Never thought of this ... but it is simple and profound. We can see road signs differently after reading your devotionals. The pictures are wonderful, too ... and Proverbs come alive in a new way." -Lucy Adams, Author and Cofounder of the Western NC Christian Writers Fellowship "Our city, like others, devotes a tremendous amount of resources toward placing directional and informational signs along its streets for guidance and to insure the public's safety. It is amazing how Bernie Brown has extracted additional meaning from many of these road signs to assist each of us on our individual life's journey. This fascinating little book will not only inspire you but will assist you in passing your 'spiritual driver's license' test." -Steve "Thunder" Tumlin, Jr., Mayor, city of Marietta, GA (Bernie's home since 1971; he was named Marietta Citizen of the Year in 1990)

'An invitation to a sane life' Jack Kornfield Do you feel at home? Are you comfortable in your own skin? Do you have a sense of belonging? In this book, senior Buddhist teacher Ethan Nichtern addresses these questions and guides us on the path we all take to find out who we really are and where we really belong. Feeling truly at home, he believes, comes not from our physical location but the ability to belong in the present moment, without worrying about yesterday's regrets or tomorrow's to-do list. Nichtern provides the tools needed to reach this awakening. Once we feel relaxed and comfortable in our own skin, our lives improve. We become less anxious, uncertain and stressed about the future; we become more able to listen, to be compassionate and engage in meaningful relationships and activities. We can all achieve this, if only we can feel at home with ourselves and others. This book is not about navel-gazing or escapism, instead it is a map to use in everyday life - one that ultimately leads you home.

At the beginning of my life, God had a plan and a purpose, even when I didnt see it. God is no respecter of person. He also has a plan and a purpose for your life. When earthly life tries to determine your destiny and your identity by bringing you confusion and turmoil that leaves you wanting to give up on life, God has a way of visiting you with His gentle touch and true love. Look at your trials as a learning experience, not a curse. Thats how God builds us up and prepares us for whats to come. It will also bring us to a place of obedience. For me, its not how I fought to the end of my battles, it was how I handled my battles with Gods wisdom and a positive attitude. As I look back at what had not made sense at the time, I can see where God has taken me, and now it all makes sense. I was raised in a non-Christian home. If you had the same upbringing, it doesnt mean that God loves you any less. It just means that God loves us and accepts us the way we are. Let God make the changes in our lives.

Imagine, if you will, standing on a dark, desolate road lost and feeling quite alone. Picture yourself contemplating two ways to travel in order to get home. You are at a crossroad in your life and you must decide which way to go. One way looks dark, scary and menacing. The other way looks familiar, well lit, with the promise of reaching your intended destination. You decide to take the familiar road, and you realize this decision will lead you home. Relieved you did not have to enter the wrong road, or the dark way, you ride through the many hills and valleys before reaching your intended destination. There will be obstacles to face, even on this road, yet you are safe knowing you are headed home. Now, what if you mistakenly took the dark road? You would be lost, confused, and frightened. You would become miserable and probably panic at the idea of being lost. You would seek out someone to help you find your way home. Your journey would be a lonely, arduous struggle, and you know that if you don't find the right person to get directions from you could be lost for a long time. Some people, unfortunately, do take the difficult road, and the ones that opt for the easy road also find themselves in difficult situations in life. We cannot escape what life dishes out to us no matter what road we choose to travel on. There will be challenges we all must face in life; some are easy and some are very difficult. Unfortunately there is human suffering in the form of tragedies, abuse, neglect, war, health problems, addictions, poverty, drugs, a sudden death in the family, and a slew of other adverse, social issues. These problems, or as I call them challenges, are inescapable, but how we deal with each challenge is within our own control. Once you realize that you have the power to control how you perceive a given circumstance in your life, you will be on your way to emotional freedom from guilt, despair, discomfort, pain, suffering, addictions, sorrow, humiliation, and the worse part, regrets from past failings, abuses or misgivings. Now imagine you are standing at the crossroad having to decide a better way to navigate on your journey and your guide introduces you to a secret, mysterious third choice. What if I told you there is another choice, a secret road that was not evident when you had to decide which way to go? I will reveal to you another choice of roads you can take that I call, The Third Road. This is the choice that was hidden when you decided which road to choose. I will show you this secret, mystical road that is the one least traveled, because of its secret nature. This road is very vague and invisible to the naked eye, yet it is strongly felt, and is waiting for you to discover the true way to go home. This road is your ticket to freedom from pain, despair, suffering, hopelessness, vices and anxiety. Albert Einstein put it so succinctly when he said, "In order to believe in the impossible, you must believe in the invisible." The Third Road is a secret road that leads one to their inner home. It is a road where one finally steps outside the world of societal demands and steps into the world where one is directed by their inner instincts, or the spirit of God. It is a road where peace, joy and happiness awaits one, irrespective of outer circumstances. It is a road that reconnects us to our spirit within, bringing us to new awareness, perspective, and a greater appreciation for life. It is the road of truth that leads us to our home. It is the metaphoric road that leads one to a home that God had intended us to be in, where the most important thing is to love God with all your heart and soul, and to love your neighbor as we love ourselves. It is a place where truth, integrity, values, freedom, peace and love abide and words like war, hatred, judgment and prejudice do not exist. It is a place of contentment, happiness, beauty and joy abound and where fear has lost its power over you. Join me on an incredible journey

The Road Home written by Sister Stanislaus Kennedy and has been published by Random House this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-09-29 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Sister Stanislaus Kennedy, or Sister Stan as she is affectionately known, has been described as a visionary and social innovator. Now, in The Road Home she looks back on her life - from her early years growing up on the family farm in the Dingle Peninsula, Co. Kerry, to the day when, at the age of eighteen, she made the life-changing decision to become a nun. Inspired by the work of Mother Mary Aikenhead, who founded the Sisters of Charity in 1815, Stan went on to dedicate her life to the service of the poor and to fighting for a fairer, more equal society. Here, as she reflects on the many challenges she has met, both personal and political, she recalls how she was also inspired by her mentor, Bishop Peter Birch and how, under his guidance she helped to set up an innovative model of community care in Kilkenny - a model that was to become a blueprint for the rest of Ireland. Over the years Stan also developed into a formidable campaigner and worked tirelessly - sometimes against severe opposition - to establish other immensely influential human rights and social justice agencies, includingFocus Ireland, now the biggest national voluntary organisation for the homeless, Young Social Innovators, a national social justice education programme for young people, and The Immigrant Council of Ireland (ICI), which supports the rights of migrants and their families and is a catalyst for public debate. In 2000, Stan also founded The Sanctuary - a meditation and spirituality centre in Dublin where, amidst the bustle of city life, people can experience peace, quiet, and the space to explore and develop their inner world. Inspiring and thought-provoking, this fascinating memoir provides a unique insight into the life and work of one of the most influential social activists of our day, the many political battles she has fought and won, and how, with dogged determination and courage, she has shaped the lives and the fortunes of thousands of people. Quite simply, The Road Home is the remarkable story of a remarkable woman.

We all have difficult or challenging roads to walk in life. The Road Home helps encourage and equip Christians with scripture and action items to get through the difficult terrains of life's roads. This book addresses each of the passages we take, consciously or not, on the way to our final home in heaven. While often these landscapes are of our own choosing, sometimes we find ourselves traversing ways we didn't knowingly select. Christ wants the best for us on our roads, even if the anguish is sometimes more than we think we can bare. He will provide peace if we trust Him. This book helps us understand where Christ is on each or our trails and how to trust Him on every stretch of the journey home, into His presence, for eternity!
