Although we tend to associate social transformation with major events, historical turning points, or revolutionary upheaval, Revolutionary Routines argues that seemingly minor everyday habits are the key to meaningful change. Through its account of influential socio-political processes – such as the resurgence of fascism and white supremacy, the crafting of new technologies of governance, and the operation of digital media and algorithms – this book rethinks not only how change works, but also what counts as change. Drawing examples from the affective politics of Trumpism and Brexit, nudge theory and behaviour change, social media and the international refugee crisis, and the networked activism of Occupy and Black Lives Matter, Carolyn Pedwell argues that minor gestures may be as significant as major happenings, revealing the powerful potential in our ability to remake shared habits and imaginatively reinhabit everyday life. Revolutionary Routines offers a new understanding of the logics of habit and the nature of social change, power, and progressive politics, illustrating diverse forms of consciousness and co-operation through which political solidarities might take shape.

Excerpt from The Politician, His Habits, Outcries and Protective Coloring: A d104book for Office-Seekers (and for Enlightened Voters), Setting Forth Infallible Guides to Political Success, Illustrated and Enriched With Many Examples From the Careers of Contemporary American Politicians, Complete With an Appendix Not only is American democracy as worthy of a text book as was Renaissance despotism, but the methods and practices of American politicians are as worthy of being recorded and analyzed as were those of Italian despots. Machiavelli held up Cesare Borgia as the ideal prince, the man whose actions and whose craft served as a model to be emulated by all aspiring to rule. And it must be agreed that Cesare Borgia acted with almost perfect skill in coping with the conditions of his time. Yet even this ideal prince, as Machiavelli points out, made one mistake and it was fatal. In the United States we do not have now, nor have we had in recent years, one politician who stands out above his fellows as the handsome and ruthless son of Alexander VI stood out above the other Italian princes of his day. But America has had and now has successful politicians whose careers furnish to aspiring office-seekers examples of conduct as valuable as those Machiavelli was able to find in the life of his perfect, or almost-perfect, hero. And, if some of the American politicians whose skill made them worthy of emulation were defeated after a period of great success, they remain. Tales From The Swamp written by Jeff Nelligan and has been published by Independently Published this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-06-12 with categories.

Revealed within this slender volume are Five Habits of the successful politicians who thrive in the Swamp. Yes, that Swamp - - Washington, D.C. - the breeding ground of all the cunning and shadows and maneuvering that defines American politics. A murky pool to navigate but brilliantly lit by those who seize and enhance true, sometimes massive political power. The Five - organization, self-control, resilience, insight, and initiative - are highlighted within entertaining and true tales about politicians at the top of their game. Because that's the thing: If you're not at the top of your game, you're not long for the Swamp. Nelligan recounts these basic habits and the enduring life lessons from his humble if unique vantage point: As a low-profile staffer, a discreet special assistant and a quiet campaign operative - the truly indispensable man carrying the papers and folders and charts and devices and yes, sometimes purses. Never even close to a decision maker, he was simply the guy always on the scene making sure the political train ran smoothly and on time: The Fixer. It was in this role in which Nelligan worked for three Members of the U.S. Congress and at the GAO; was twice a Presidential Appointee serving senior Cabinet officials; and, operated as an advance man on municipal, Congressional, and Presidential campaigns. Tales From The Swamp is straightforward, funny, and fast - the shortest self-help book and perhaps one of the livelier political stories you'll ever read. Nelligan's takeaway from a long career in one of the most competitive places on earth is that professional success can be enhanced by developing these five habits. They worked for those in the Swamp. They will work for you.
