When three Seattle baristas are brutally beaten to death, the espresso-loving citizens, who revere their baristas, pressure the Seattle Police Department for quick action. With no clues, leads or suspects, the SPD brings in Harley Wolf, a consulting private investigator with a reputation for making brilliant deductions. But Harley Wolf is no Sherlock Holmes. His special powers are more like those of the Hound of the Baskervilles. Harley is secretly a werewolf. His heightened senses and animal instincts aid him in discovering otherwise undetectable clues, and in tracking killers. At the dark, rain-slicked alley crime scene of the third murdered barista, he picks up the scent of a suspect he calls, the Marlboro Man, leading Harley deeper into the convoluted depths of the coffee bean scene.Harley is no ordinary werewolf; he is also a vegan. Haunted by the myths of werewolves as monsters, and saddened by the stories of the mindless mobs that persecuted them, he vowed at a young age to fight for justice, and to control his instinct to kill. Conflicted by the raging hormones of his inner being that are ignited in the light of the full moon, Harley prowls the wet streets and alleyways of Seattle's haunted skid road, seeking out a real monster, the barista killer, and a tiny bit more of elusive redemption.

Spree Killers: Practical Classifications for Law Enforcement and Criminology is the only exhaustive, up-to-date analytical book on spree killers, standing apart from those dedicated to mass murderers and serial killers. Multicides have traditionally been categorized as double, triple, mass, serial and spree—while, mass and serial have been further divided into subcategories. Spree killing, which involves the killing of at least three persons at two or more locations due to a precipitating incident that fuels the urge to kill, remains a poorly defined concept. In the United States, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) eliminated this term from its multicide nomenclature in 2005, but the authors examination of 359 cases involving 419 spree killers from 43 countries shows that not only is there enough diversity among spree killers to form classifications—similar to those devised for mass and serial—but also that subtypes offer distinct utility for identification, tracking, and warning potential targets. Spree Killers outline the designation of spree killer specifically and thoroughly. In addition to looking at existing literature, specific cases, and the behavioral patterns, it offers a fully worked up profile for the typology. The behaviors and motives for spree killers align in six categories, which are detailed in full. The book provides unique insight for police, forensic, and investigative personnel into what to look for to respond to, and—in some cases identify and stopping—certain types of spree killings.

DEADLY DIVERSIONS is a murder/mystery novel set in the unique world of all-cargo airlines and the crews that fly their planes. When three airline captains die in mysterious mishaps on layovers in different European cities, alarm bells go off at the International Pilots Federation's headquarters. Enter Don Carling, a private investigator and former airline pilot. His task is twofold: one, to determine if the accidental verdicts are valid, and two, look for any evidence the deaths are connected. There are disturbing similarities, he finds, but no concrete evidence of a link. His investigation stalls...until a fourth captain is murdered, this time in London. The murder provides fresh leads, leads that supply Carling with clues to reinforce his growing conspiracy theory. But proving it is another matter, and key pieces of the puzzle are still missing as Flight 213, a 747 freighter, takes off from London bound for Toronto with, Carling fears, a potential fifth victim in command. Interpol, Scotland Yard, the Russian Mafia, a femme fatale, and a colorful yet believable cast of characters all have roles in the cleverly crafted plot - one that gains momentum with every page and ends with an unforeseen and foreboding twist. A twist that the reader, with the advantage of hindsight, might decide is more truth than fiction...

The debut issue of Serial Killer Quarterly, "21st Century Psychos", explores seven of the new millennium's most notorious multiple murder cases and examines how modern technological advancements and political developments are influencing the manner in which serial murder is being articulated. Dr. Katherine Ramsland examines the life and crimes of Israel Keyes - arguably the most organized and mobile serial murderer in American history. In direct contrast to Keyes's secretive slayings, the Beltway Snipers, John Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo, murdered random civilians in broad daylight and openly taunted the authorities. Michael Newton - author of 265 books including the groundbreaking Encyclopedia of Serial Killers - details their three week reign of terror in his feature "Islam Will Explode". Lee Mellor's "Web of Spiders" discusses the milestone case of "Slavemaster" John Edward Robinson: the Internet's first serial killer. Other articles in "21st Century Psychos" include: "Love in the Ashes" - Arthur Ellis-award nominee Robert J. Hoshowsky takes on Sheila Labarre - an aging nymphomaniac who seduced, slaughtered, and incinerated three male victims on her New Hampshire farm, challenging our views on the nature of female serial killers forever. "The Interview" - Curtis Yateman's impressionistic look at the 2009-2010 murders committed by Canadian Airforce base commander Col. Russell Williams. "Checkmate" - The story of post-Soviet Russia's most prolific serial slaughterer, "Chessboard Killer" Alexander Pichushkin, as recounted by Grinning Man Press co-founder Aaron Elliott. "Canada's Killer Countryboy?" - Award-winning author,Kim Cresswell, sheds light on clean-cut "country boy" Cody Legebokoff, who at the age of 21 was charged with the murders of four women in western Canada. Is his guilt a certainty, or is there more to this story than meets the eye? Also read...Infamous Words, Feasts of Death and Killer Flicks: Grinning Man Reviews - Mr. Brooks.
