Tuscany Next Left is a true story of relationships, laughter, drama and the unexpected, filling in the space between the blurred lines of both the fantasy and reality of traveling through Europe that has been so successfully plated and served to us by the media. Knowing what I had read in travel magazines and seen on multiple cooking and travel shows about Italy, I wanted to be part of it. I had been sold on the notion of what Tuscany was all about...a special spot on the globe where great food and wine were always on the menu against a storybook picturesque backdrop. A place where artwork, invention and global shaping history were born; and romantic encounters were only a kiss and a bottle of wine away. So with two phone calls made I invited Jackie and Michael, my good friends, on a European journey, never realizing how a left turn would take us on a trip of a lifetime.

Itineraries And Languages Of Madness In The Early Modern World written by Mariana Labarca and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-07-05 with History categories.

Drawing on a wide range of sources including interdiction procedures, records of criminal justice, documentation from mental hospitals, and medical literature, this book provides a comprehensive study of the spaces in which madness was recorded in Tuscany during the eighteenth century. It proposes the notion of itineraries of madness, which, intended as an heuristic device, enables us to examine records of madness across the different spaces where it was disclosed, casting light on the connections between how madness was understood and experienced, the language employed to describe it, and public and private responses devised to cope with it. Placing the emotional experience of the Tuscan families at the core of its analysis, this book stresses the central role of families in the shaping of new understandings of madness and how lay notions interacted with legal and medical knowledge. It argues that perceptions of madness in the eighteenth century were closely connected to new cultural concerns regarding family relationships and family roles, which resulted in a shift in the meanings of and attitudes to mental disturbances.

Community And Clientele In Twelfth Century Tuscany written by Chris Wickham and has been published by OUP Oxford this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998 with History categories.

This book addresses a gap in Italian historiography by examining rural rather than city communes. In recent years, historians have increasingly focused on local and regional studies of village communities as a way of understanding medieval European history. This discussion of a group ofvillages around Lucca is the first detailed study of the origin of organized village communities in Italy for over seventy years, showing how the social and political structures of the countryside ran alongside those of the city. Chris Wickham analyses how local politics took recognizable shape asits ruling structures gradually emerged over time. His argument does not end there, and indeed extends beyond Italy, to France and Spain, providing sustained comparisons of rural development and social organization. The result is a rare combination of systematic local analysis and wide synthesis, aimed at illuminating the whole area of social transformation in twelfth-century Europe.

Human Nature In Rural Tuscany written by Gregory Hanlon and has been published by Palgrave Macmillan this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-03-15 with History categories.

Melding evolutionary theory and both animal and human ethology together with close, descriptive historical research on a typical Tuscan village in the seventeenth century, Hanlon explains the good reasons individuals had for behaving in ways that now seem strange to us. This fascinating study springs from the conviction that the building blocks of human life are universal: hierarchy and political participation; co-operation and competition, reproduction, invention, and adaptation. The author argues, however, that individual emotions, thought processes, and social predicaments are always set in specific times and places.
