Recent monographs on Johannine signs tend to focus on a single sign. Other studies that examine multiple signs mainly focus on the first half of John’s Gospel. In Christian circles, most preachers and believers remain preoccupied by the traditional view that John’s Gospel contains only seven signs. However, what constitutes a sign for John, and how signs function to achieve the purpose of the Gospel (John 20:30–31) is far from settled. Three features of this book explore important clues for solving this puzzle: (1) a fresh hypothesis that Jesus’s signs correspond to the four tabernacle signs (a pot of manna, Aaron’s staff, the bronze altar cover, and the bronze serpent), which makes sense given the tabernacle/temple theme of John’s Gospel; (2) a complete study that examines Johannine signs in the whole Gospel systematically to reveal how signs develop the book’s purpose; and (3) an adaptation of a sociolinguistic theory to examine the corresponding texts of the Old Testament and New Testament in light of how language functions in a social event. The author will show how Jesus’s signs fulfill the functions of the four tabernacle signs, and how Jesus’s crucifixion is the “all-inclusive” sign in witnessing to his identity.

"I felt like a prisoner in an assisted living facility, and I was only 18. I was afraid of everyone and everything for as long as I could remember. Diagnosed with several mental conditions including PTSD and Agoraphobia due to the traumatic abuse of being sold to truck drivers by my step dad from the age of 8-13. I was taking several medications. I had been seen by top mental health professionals and admitted to inpatient care several times. After just 3 weeks working with Sister Kadee, receiving Jesus as my personal savior and memorizing just a few of the verses in this memory book, my life was transformed drastically. My case was closed as a miracle, and after my Discipleship course with her I went to India to work with the deaf as a missionary. I am nearly deaf myself from the abuse I suffered as a child, and she helped me turn my curse into a blessing to help others". "After this experience with C. Rose, I knew it was my life's purpose to be a minister and healer outside of the confines of modem medicine and religion. I had seen the power of God THROUGH me to help someone else, and there was no going back The building blocks within these pages will help establish yourself as a living stone, a Living Temple built upon the Chief Corner Stone whom the builders refused as their Messiah". In Nuptial Symbolism in Second Temple Writings, the New Testament and Rabbinic Literature, André Villeneuve examines the ancient Jewish concept of the covenant between God and Israel, portrayed as a marriage dynamically moving through salvation history. This nuptial covenant was established in Eden but damaged by sin; it was restored at the Sinai theophany, perpetuated in the Temple liturgy, and expected to reach its final consummation at the end of days. The authors of the New Testament adopted the same key moments of salvation history to describe the spousal relationship between Christ and the Church. In their typological treatment of these motifs, they established an exegetical framework that would anticipate the four senses of Scripture later adopted by patristic and medieval commentators.

Temple And Contemplation written by Scott W. Hahn and has been published by Emmaus Road Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Religion categories.

This is the fourth annual volume of the remarkably popular journal of biblical theology edited by Scott Hahn and his St. Paul Center for Biblical Theology. This volume features important new works by Hahn, Gary Anderson, John Cavadini, Brant Pitre, among others. Inspired by the ground-breaking work of Yves Congar and Jean Danielou, this volume includes original and thought-provoking contributions on such topics as: the Tabernacle and the origins of Christian mysticism; Jesus self-consciousness of being the new Temple and the new High Priest; and the doctrine of the indwelling of the Trinity in the soul; Hahn contributes a new perspective on the Gospel of John, showing how Israel's Temple and feasts are fulfilled in Christ and the sacraments of the Church. As the editors write in their introduction to this volume: The Temple theme is perhaps the richest in all of biblical theology, embracing the mysteries of Christ, Church, and Kingdom; liturgy, sacraments, and priesthood; salvation, sanctification, and divine filiation. These are the beautiful mysteries we contemplate in this volume of Letter & Spirit.

"The temple is a central image in Scripture - at times more obviously, and at others more implicitly. It is behind the story of creation, as well as the story of Israel, and is taken up by Jesus and the writers of the New Testament letters. What does tracing this story tell us about who Jesus is and what it means to follow him? How should we understand ourselves as a temple (dwelling) people? And what difference does this make in practice?"--Page 4 of cover.
