The aim of the project is to make a conscious decision to use a universal, recognisable object...the humble sock. I have used humour mixed with a rescue sock/pet rehousing plea. After character creating, personality assessments and a glamour shoot or two, the Rescue Sock Project #1 was on its way.The Rescue Sock Project happened by accident. During a visit to my local Good Sammy's outlet, I asked the Manager if the store had any odd socks I could purchase for a creative project. I was told that donated socks were a huge problem for all the second-hand clothing stores. They cannot be sold, given a second life and donations of them were problematic and prolific. I couldn't believe the visual of one weeks' worth of bagged socks from one outlet. The result...to landfill. Twenty bags of socks came home with me and after seeing them laid out in all their sock glory, the Rescue Sock Project started. My hope is that I can get an environmental message out exposing this problem with puns, humour and a strong message to boot!
