This work is an ethnographic account of the work of transnational, Christian non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Zimbabwe. Protestant NGOs are one of the voices of pluralism in southern Africa, sometimes challenging the state and at other times collaborating with it. The tensions of such engagement are key to understanding the successes and failures of transnational, humanitarian endeavors to foster democratic governance in Zimbabwe. While much scholarship has been focused, theoretically, on the role of NGOs in democratization in Africa regarding international foreign policy, few studies offer empirically grounded insights into how transnational NGOs operate. The Spirit of Development addresses, ethnographically, how an American discourse of Christian humanitarianism transforms and is transformed by, local settings.

Transforming People And Organizations written by Margarete van den Brink and has been published by Temple Lodge Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Business & Economics categories.

Individuals, groups, and organizations find themselves in a process of continual change, transformation, and growth. The author suggests that all people--whether as individuals or in groups--experience the same archetypal process of development, which consists of seven steps. Using practical examples, she describes how to recognize these steps, or phases, in individuals, in relationships and groups, and even in commercial and voluntary organizations. Knowledge of the various steps provides clarity and vision and helps us prepare for the sorts of challenges and rewards. In addition to the outer aspects of these processes, there is also an inner aspect. The author shows that the process of growth through the seven phases is essentially a process of spiritual development. Spirit manifests in human beings and determines the meaning and direction of our lives, providing motivation for change and direction. These impulses also work in groups and organizations, and understanding them gives us greater insight. Van den Brink's approach offers a refreshing, new, and dynamic way forward in contrast to the rationalistic methods of most mainstream consultants and personal development.

Cultivating the Spirit THIS GROUNDBREAKING WORK IS BASED on a five-year study of how students change during the college years and the role college plays in facilitating the development of their spiritual qualities. Students, the authors argue, grapple with the big questions in life: Who am I? What are my values? Do I have a mission in life? Why am I in college? What kind of person do I want to be? What sort of world do I want to help to create? Their answers to these questions help determine their academic and career choices and are tied to the development of personal qualities such as empathy, caring, and social responsibility. The study finds that, while students' religious engagement declines during college, at the same time they become substantially more caring, tolerant, connected with others, and actively egaged in a spiritual quest. Spiritual growth also enhances academic performance, leadership development, and satisfaction with college. The study provides strong evidence pointing to specific experiences during college that can contribute to students' spiritual growth. The need for spiritual development in college is apparent. Two-thirds of the students in the study express a strong interest in spiritual matters, well over half report that their professors never encourage discussions of religious or spiritual matters, and about the same proportion report that professors never provide opportunities to discuss the purpose and meaning of life. Cultivating the Spirit aims to raise the awareness of academic administrators, faculty, and the public at large to the vital role that spirituality plays in student learning and development. Throughout the book, the authors identify strategies for enhancing students' development and encourage the academy to give greater priority to the spiritual aspects of students' educational and personal development.

Eight Keys To Progressive Spiritual Development written by Darius M. John and has been published by Trafford Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-08 with Religion categories.

Wherever there is life, there is increase and growth. In God's kingdom, there is a constant interchange of receiving and returning. Thus the capacity for receiving is increased. As one communicates the heavenly gifts to others, he makes room for fresh supplies to flow into his soul from the living fountain. Greater light, increased knowledge, and blessing are multiplied to him. Whoever is satisfied in receiving and never giving loses his capacity to receive. This is true in temporal as in spiritual things. There can be no life without growth. A plant must either grow or die. As its growth is silent and imperceptible, but continuous, so is the growth of character. The plant grows by receiving that which God has provided to sustain its life. Spiritual growth is attained through cooperation with divine agencies. As the plant takes root in the soil, so we are to take root in Christ. As the plant receives the sunshine, the dew, and the rain, so are we to receive the Holy Spirit. The object of the husbandman in sowing and planting is the production of grain--bread for the hungry, and seed for future harvests. So the divine husbandman looks for a harvest. He is seeking to reproduce himself in the hearts and lives of his followers, that through them he may be reproduced in other hearts and lives. Eight Keys takes you step-by-step through the process of spiritual growth and development.

Five Foundations Of Human Development written by Errol A. Gibbs and has been published by AuthorHouse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-06 with categories.

Five Foundations of Human Development (FFHD) is a philosophical, religious, and practical discourse on human development based on the following five foundations: Spiritual, Moral, Social, Intellectual, and Physical. The authors proffer that human beings possess the capacity to rise to a higher state of civilization when we allow 'Spiritual Intelligence' to underpin 'human intelligence' as our capable guide. The indomitable spirit within human beings that brought civilization out of the Dark Ages and into an Age of Enlightenment demonstrates our capacity to transcend moral hope and optimism for a better world with peaceful coexistence among individuals, families, and nations. This book will help inform, enlighten, and empower individuals and leaders in such fields as engineering, science, religion, politics, the military, and other great institutions to engender solutions to the myriad of unsolved problems of past centuries, problems of the present, and emerging problems of the future. Problems, such as wars, genocide, greed, and the exploitation of human beings begin within our destructive spiritual nature and manifest in the physical nature. Therefore, solutions also lie in the spiritual realm as a counterbalance to the natural realm of human existence. FFHD is a blueprint for human survival based on adherence to physical laws and spiritual laws that transcend a belief in an omnipotent (all powerful), omnipresent (everywhere) and omniscient (all knowing) being. It will awaken the conscience to comprehend the life-threatening issues that face humankind. The solutions, therefore, cannot merely be left only to the educated elite, the military forces, and those in high public and private office. The global significance of this book is that it informs a more communal view of our world. It is the only perspective that will allow us to enter the global village prepared for the racial, social, cultural, environmental, and economic challenges that lie ahead.
