The Stateless Market written by Paul Kapteyn and has been published by Psychology Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1996 with Business & Economics categories.

This book offers a broad view of the tension between state and market in the political evolution of the European Union. Contemporary developments and issues are set within the historical context of state formation. Paul Kapteyn argues that states are invariably formed by violent conquest, or by fusion in the face of an external threat; and that markets can emerge only only when the state has been established. He points out that while the histories of France, Britain, The Netherlands and Germany conform to these rules, the European Union does not; and he goes on to explore the reasons why this is not so, and its implications. The second section of the book is based on empirical research. Paul Kapteyn underpins his theoretical and historical argument with an analysis of official documents, newspaper articles and interviews with Eurocrats form the various member states. He concentrates especially on two case studies, of the Treaty of Schengen on judicial cooperation and harmonization, and of the problem of EU fraud. He also looks closely at eh consquences of the Maastricht Treaty. The Stateless Marlet is a thought-provoking text, ideally suited to students on European studies, politics, international relations and sociology courses. it will also be of great interest to those professionally concerned with European integration.

Market anarchists favor replacing the state with a fully free market, i.e., one with no restrictions on voluntary production and exchange; all functions of the state are either to be abolished (when they are inherently invasive of people's right to live their lives peacefully) or turned over to free competition (when they are not). Many market anarchists - especially, though not exclusively, those associated with market anarchism's "right" wing - tend to envision a fully free market as one in which all resources are privately owned. The essays in this book offer a different perspective: that a stateless free-market society can and should include, alongside private property, a robust role for public property - not, of course, in the sense of governmental property, but rather in the sense of property that is owned by the general community rather than by specific individuals or formally organized groups. The delineation of the theory of common property under market anarchism is a work in progress. Think of the present volume as a conversation-starter, not a conversation-ender.

Genealogies Of Citizenship written by Margaret R. Somers and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-07-24 with Social Science categories.

Genealogies of Citizenship is a remarkable rethinking of human rights and social justice. As global governance is increasingly driven by market fundamentalism, growing numbers of citizens have become socially excluded and internally stateless. Against this movement to organize society exclusively by market principles, Margaret Somers argues that socially inclusive democratic rights must be counter-balanced by the powers of a social state, a robust public sphere and a relationally-sturdy civil society. Through epistemologies of history and naturalism, contested narratives of social capital, and Hurricane Katrina's racial apartheid, she warns that the growing authority of the market is distorting the non-contractualism of citizenship; rights, inclusion and moral worth are increasingly dependent on contractual market value. In this pathbreaking work, Somers advances an innovative view of rights as public goods rooted in an alliance of public power, political membership, and social practices of equal moral recognition - the right to have rights.
