One in five adults in the United State suffer from mental illness each year. These illnesses impact the afflicted individuals as wells as the surrounding loved ones. In The Story of My Suffering, author Furwa J. Hussain shares six short stories that focus on different forms of neglect caused by a variety of mental illnesses. Culled from a number of perspectives and cultures, the stories movingly portray children in difficult and sometimes abusive family situations and give intimate, complex portrayals of both intense suffering and inspiring resilience. These short stories shed light on some of the misery loved ones experience and communicates a message of shared pain, failure, parental negligence, and lack of love. In The Story of My Suffering, Hussain seeks to provide comfort to those who believe they are the only ones with bad experiences; to provide hope there is light at the end of the tunnel; to convey the message that no matter how tough life gets, no matter how many suicide attempts you make, you can deal with what is happening and get through this; and to help start a conversation to ensure no child suffers in silence.

And Though This World With Devils Filled written by Jón Magnússon and has been published by Peter Lang this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Literary Collections categories.

This book is mainly an English translation of Jón Magnússon's A Story of Sufferings. Magnússon, a seventeenth-century Lutheran priest in Iceland, endured intense physical and mental sufferings, which he attributed to the black magic of three alleged sorcerers. The two male sorcerers were tried, convicted, and burned to death, but the third (a woman) was acquitted. The work may have been written as material for appealing the acquittal of the woman to a higher court. This book also includes a historical introduction, a chronology of Jón Magnússon's life, and the rulings from the trials. Though hardly pleasant to read, A Story of Sufferings is a literary masterpiece in the original. It should be of interest to students of mystical religion and to historians of the witchcraft craze that plagued Europe during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.

Suffering Is Never For Nothing written by Elisabeth Elliot and has been published by B&H Publishing Group this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-02-01 with Religion categories.

Hard times come for all in life, with no real explanation. When we walk through suffering, it has the potential to devastate and destroy, or to be the gateway to gratitude and joy. Elisabeth Elliot was no stranger to suffering. Her first husband, Jim, was murdered by the Waoroni people in Ecuador moments after he arrived in hopes of sharing the gospel. Her second husband was lost to cancer. Yet, it was in her deepest suffering that she learned the deepest lessons about God. Why doesn’t God do something about suffering? He has, He did, He is, and He will. Suffering and love are inexplicably linked, as God’s love for His people is evidenced in His sending Jesus to carry our sins, griefs, and sufferings on the cross, sacrificially taking what was not His on Himself so that we would not be required to carry it. He has walked the ultimate path of suffering, and He has won victory on our behalf. This truth led Elisabeth to say, “Whatever is in the cup that God is offering to me, whether it be pain and sorrow and suffering and grief along with the many more joys, I’m willing to take it because I trust Him.” Because suffering is never for nothing.

Suffering is an inevitable part of our lives as humans. We, as Christians, are called to have an understanding of suffering that is based on how the Bible interprets and mentions sufferings. Suffering is a huge theme throughout the Bible. The first part of this book focuses on what the Bible says on the topic, as what the Bible says about suffering is the best way to understand and perceive our own sufferings. Be warned, suffering is NOT a subject that is light and fluffy, hence this book is NOT light or fluffy. The second part of this book contains stories of my own personal sufferings, which have been unique in many ways, and include an incurable genetic disease. I look at these sufferings in light of the Scriptures and the lessons the Lord taught me through them. The idea is that each of you, by reading this book, may also be encouraged to look at the Lord’s purposes in your own sufferings, past and present. If our hope is rooted firmly in the Lord, there is hope and rejoicing in the midst of our sufferings.

When Suffering is Redemptive offers hope when life is difficult. The eight stories of this book do not seek to explain the "why" of suffering but rather the present ways that God transforms and redeems suffering, particularly how suffering leads to ministry opportunities. Though the stories are personal and sometimes difficult to tell, the authors are transparent with their struggles and honest in their questions. Yet they have not lost sight of Christ and his purpose for their lives. This book will challenge readers to develop a richer sense of God's sustaining grace in the midst of suffering and disability, hopefully resulting in the compassionate involvement of church ministries with those who are in the trenches of their own personal pain or struggles. Along with the personal stories, this book includes discussion questions and suggested resources at the end of each chapter.
