Yet it was from the Germanic and Norse lands that the great body of ideas and customs of the many tribes that made the English nation came. I have gone into caves and crypts, seen barrows and mounds excavated, and visited the old moot places of the Salic Franks, as well as museums and archives, and have seen corona tions, parades, and pageants.
