This “Story of Mine”, I have decided to tell, may not be written in the most “proper” or “correct” style, but it will, however, be told like I speak. Us Texans don't generally use a lot of “properly pronounced” words… we tend to “drop our “g's”, and “misspell” just a little sometimes, so as to give a better idea of what we're tryin' to say. I am “not a redneck”…just “Country”!There might also be just a little “jumpin' around” with dates, years, and so forth. I will attempt to make it as “right” as I possibly can, but please remember, I have “covered a lot of ground” in my almost seventy years, and sometimes it takes a while to “bring somethin' back” from my past! So sayin…Here's my Story…put down in “writin'” to the best of my recollection! So… to anybody who actually happens to read this... be “forewarned”.

The History Of Texas Music written by Gary Hartman and has been published by Texas A&M University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008-03-08 with History categories.

The richly diverse ethnic heritage of the Lone Star State has brought to the Southwest a remarkable array of rhythms, instruments, and musical styles that have blended here in unique ways and, in turn, have helped shape the music of the nation and the world. Historian Gary Hartman writes knowingly and lovingly of the Lone Star State’s musical traditions. In the first thorough survey of the vast and complex cultural mosaic that has produced what we know today as “Texas music,” he paints a broad, panoramic view, offers analysis of the origins of and influences on specific genres, profiles key musicians, and provides guidance to additional sources for further information. A musician himself, Hartman draws on both academic and non-academic sources to give a more complete understanding of the state’s remarkable musical history and ethnic community studies with his first-hand knowledge of how important music is as a cultural medium through which human beings communicate information, ideas, emotions, values, and beliefs, and bond together as friends, families, and communities. The History of Texas Music incorporates a selection of well-chosen photographs of both prominent and less-well-known artists and describes not only the ethnic origins of much of Texas music but also the cross-pollination among various genres. Today, the music of Texas—which includes Native American music, gospel, blues, ragtime, swing, jazz, rhythm and blues, conjunto, Tejano, Cajun, zydeco, western swing, honky tonk, polkas, schottsches, rock & roll, rap, hip hop and more—reflects the unique cultural dynamics of the Southwest.

Up The Trail From Texas written by James Frank Dobie and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1955 with African American cowboys categories.

Cowboys who drove herds of Texas cattle up the Chisholm Trail have interested readers, both young and old, for more than seventy-five years. Now the true story of trail-driving has been written by J. Frank Dobie, authority on the history and tradition of range life in the West. In the period following the Civil War, longhorns were driven north by the hundreds of thousands each year to be sold in rollicky cow towns and to stock vast ranges taken from the buffaloes. Indians, scarcity of water, floods, lightning, stampedes--these were only some of the dangers confronting trail drivers. There were no fences. Grass was free--and so was life. Among the characters in the book are Joseph G. McCoy, who established the first cattle market in Abilene, Kansas--terminus of the Chisholm Trail Walter Billingsley, who bossed "the biggest trail herd" for mighty King Ranch; and Charles Goodnight and Oliver Loving, who blazed a trail to New Mexico. When he was young, Mr. Dobie knew many old-time trail drivers and took down their stories. Here he gives them, along with a wealth of information and anecdotes concerning the remuda men, chuck wagon cooks, trail bosses, cow horses, bell mares, longhorned steers and other types of trail-driving history. Here is the real story of the real cowboy of the old West at the peak of his career -- Book jacket.

Handcuffed and arrested while TV cameras rolled and newspaper reporters scribbled notes this wasn't how Texas Lil's dream was supposed to end. She'd spent 27 years turning the Texas Lils Dude Ranch into a premier vacation spot. Now it was smoldering from a fire so huge that the glow was seen as far away as Fort Worth. Police accused Texas Lil of being the arsonist and made a public spectacle of arresting her and ruining her reputation. Texas Lil was destined to be an entrepreneur. Despite a philandering, money-burning husband as a business partner, Texas Lil used savvy and sweat to turn a tiny shop in her garage into a thriving, popular business. She parlayed that into the Texas Lils Dude Ranch, 200 acres of gorgeous rolling property near what would become the Texas Motor Speedway She accomplished all this while raising children and dealing with a drunken, abusive husband. But personal tragedies have never been strangers to this determined woman. She handled the sensational murder of her brother Stan Farr, who was shot along with Priscilla Davis and two others at the Cullen Davis mansion in 1976. This amazing story of how a single mom overcame a never-ending series of tragedies, built a successful business, and lived a roaring good life comes to life on the pages of Texas Lil's book, Trails, Trials, and Tears. It's a completely revealing look into the life of a remarkable woman who keeps pushing forward no matter how many times she stumbles along the way.
