C.H. Admirand sweeps her readers back into the past to Regency England with book one in her Regency-Era Historical Trilogy: The Three Vices. This re-release has the previously deleted prologue, chapters, and scenes added back in for an enhanced read. For readers who have already read Patience, I have toned down the love scenes to appeal to a broader range of readers. Never fear, the romance is still the most important part of Lady Patience and Viscount Rexley's story. Here's the trilogy overview: Three cousins: Lady Patience Wainwright, Lady Charity Fenwick, and Lady Prudence Thompson, (daughters of three sisters) each have a vice that has their respective parents despairing that they may never find suitable matches for the highly spirited and willful daughters. Patience, Charity, and Prudence...Virtuous qualities a young lady seeking a husband would surely wish to possess. Unless, of course, a well-meaning parent chose to name her daughter Patience, with an eye to the future, hoping her precious child would seek to emulate the meaning of her name. Never imagining her beloved daughter would grow up preferring the break-neck pace of racing her horse across the meadow to taking tea with callers, or that she would prefer angling for trout and firing a pistol to plying fabric with a needle. And, Lord help us all, that she would grow to stand just four inches shy of six feet tall Patience is impetuous, impulsive, and impossible. Ah, but her parents have a plan to secure a marriage, and their daughter's future. They intend to find a gentleman of noble birth-with deep pockets-who has never met their daughter. Surely somewhere in all of England there is a gentleman who will embrace their daughter, thorns and all. All he need do is overlook her height, and her talent with rod, reel, and pistol. The virtue has become the vice ...

The seven deadly sins are pride, envy, anger, sloth, gluttony, greed, and lust. The seven virtues are prudence, fortitude, temperance, justice, faith, hope, and love. This book brings all of them together and for the first time lays out their history in a collection of the most important philosophical, religious, literary, and art-historical works. Starting with the Greco-Roman and Judeo-Christian antecedents, this anthology of source documents traces the virtues-and-vices tradition through its cultural apex during the medieval era and then into their continued development and transformation from the Renaissance to the present. This anthology includes excerpts of Plato's Republic, the Bible, Dante's Purgatorio, and the writings of Friedrich Nietzsche and C. S. Lewis. Also included are artworks from medieval manuscripts; paintings by Giotto, Veronese, and Paul Cadmus; prints by Brueghel; and a photograph by Oscar Rejlander. What these works show is the vitality and richness of the virtues and vices in the arts from their origins to the present. You can continue this book's conversation by visiting http://www.virtuesvicesinthearts.blogspot.com/. There you can join conversations, find out more, and meet other scholars and artists interested in this vibrant tradition.

Characterization Of The Seven Capital Vices In Paradise Lost written by David Hazemali and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with categories.

In his Paradise Lost, John Milton implemented the system of the Seven Capital Vices which was first established by Pope Gregory the Great around 590 CE and confirmed in the 13th century by St Thomas Aquinas. In essence, the system revolves around the soul, which, once having surrendered to Pride, progresses through a set sequence of other vices, Envy, Wrath, Sloth, Greed, Gluttony, and Lust, in that order. In these Vices, all possible actual sins have their roots. This system became a prominent feature in the works of some of the most influential writers of the past millennium. Milton used this system as a structural device with which to present to the reader the entire scope of evil, in other words, to make him experience the Fall. According to Robert Charles Fox, the system appears three times in Paradise Lost. In Book II, Milton depicts it by giving Satan and six other major denizens of Hell the characteristics of a particular Vice, meaning each of the seven major diabolical figures that appear in Paradise Lost embodies or personifies one of the Seven Capital Vices. As the most eloquent and characteristically perfected of the diabolical figures of Hell, Satan embodies Pride, the prime Capital Vice. In his Pride, he sparked the great rebellion in Heaven which ultimately became his downfall. He does not share his Vice with anyone; rather, he infuses others with Envy, the second of the Seven Capital Vices. The first victim to succumb to his treachery was his lieutenant Beëlzebub, who becomes his alter ego in the Infernal debate and the symbol of Envy. The three other speakers in the debate symbolize the next three Capital Vices: the fierce yet somewhat dumb Moloch symbolizes Wrath, the eloquent yet insidious Belial symbolizes Sloth, and Greed is symbolized by the prospector Mammon. The final two Capital Vices, Gluttony and Lust, which differ from the other five in that they affect the body, not the soul, are not symbolized, but allegorically personified by Death and Sin, respectively.
