Hi there! It’s nice to present you once again with another ‘hot’ issue of easyuni. On 11 June this year, we launched the unifrens social platform, an extension to easyuni’s existing vision of providing comprehensive and accurate information to students about colleges and universities. This is another milestone in the history of easyuni as one of Asia’s most popular education portals, committed to helping students with their higher education plans. unifrens is a social platform which allows students, searching for universities and colleges with similar interests, to connect with each other to help them make unbiased and community-driven decisions about their higher education. It also allows them to connect with students who are currently enrolled at universities who can tell them about their experiences about a particular city, country, university or a course. unifrens is something we had been planning for a while to complement our current family of tools for students. We always knew that our users would love it as they want more community-driven information instead of promotional content from universities and “study abroad” consultants. I believe this feature will democratise the way information about specifi c courses, countries or institutions is presented and this can only mean good news for students and their parents visitors, as it helps them make more informed decisions about which course, institution or country to pick. Students can also pose questions to their groups, which will be answered by experts and the community. The feature is still in its beta stage but has gained massive traction with over 100,000 users already registered and assigned to groups. Exciting, isn’t it? The issue you’re holding now has so much to offer as well. So, read every page and fi ll yourself with all the knowledge needed to make informed decisions about your higher education.

This volume serves as a critical examination of the discourses at play in the higher education system and the ways in which these discourses underpin the transmission of neoliberal values in 21st century universities. Situated within a Critical Discourse Analysis-based framework, the book also draws upon other linguistic approaches, including corpus linguistics and appraisal analysis, to unpack the construction and development of the management style known as managerialism, emergent in the 1990s US and UK higher education systems, and the social dynamics and power relations embedded within the discourses at the heart of managerialism in today’s universities. Each chapter introduces a particular aspect of neoliberal discourse in higher education and uses these multiple linguistic approaches to analyze linguistic data in two case studies and demonstrate these principles at work. This multi-layered systematic linguistic framework allows for a nuanced exploration of neoliberal institutional discourse and its implications for academic labor, offering a critique of the managerial system in higher education but also a larger voice for alternative discursive narratives within the academic community. This important work is a key resource for students and scholars in applied linguistics, Critical Discourse Analysis, sociology, business and management studies, education, and cultural studies.

Higher Education And Social Inequalities written by Richard Waller and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-08-09 with Social Science categories.

A university education has long been seen as the gateway to upward social mobility for individuals from lower socio-economic backgrounds, and as a way of reproducing social advantage for the better off. With the number of young people from the very highest socio-economic groups entering university in the UK having effectively been at saturation point for several decades, the expansion witnessed in participation rates over the last few decades has largely been achieved by a modest broadening of the base of the undergraduate population in terms of both social class and ethnic diversity. However, a growing body of evidence exists in the continuation of unequal graduate outcomes. This can be seen in terms of employment trajectories in the UK. The issue of just who enjoys access to which university, and the experiences and outcomes of graduates from different institutions remain central to questions of social justice, notably higher education’s contribution to social mobility and to the reproduction of social inequality. This collection of contemporary original writings explores these issues in a range of specific contexts, and through employing a range of theoretical and methodological approaches. The relationship between higher education and social mobility has probably never been under closer scrutiny. This volume will appeal to academics, policy makers, and commentators alike. Higher Education and Social Inequalities is an important contribution to the public and academic debate.

Complexity And The Public Sector written by Chris Mowles and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-10-10 with Business & Economics categories.

Since the early 1990s, public sector organisations have been overwhelmed with what has come to be termed New Public Management (NPM) methods. NPM idealises performance, metrics, transparency and marketisation. This book explores some of the tensions which arise in institutions where NPM methods prevail, introduces different ways of thinking about the task of managing for public good and offers a radical challenge to the dominant assumptions regarding why and how professional communities of practice may (or may not) come to change their working practices. In this third book in the Complexity and Management series, the expert authors bring together their experiences to provide vibrant accounts of how to manage in everyday public sector organisational situations using practical judgement. The book includes a brief introduction to complexity and public sector management, real-world narratives illustrating concrete dilemmas in the workplace and a concluding chapter that draws together the practical and theoretical implications of a complexity perspective. With both theoretical grounding and practical insights from senior managers and consultants, the book provides an ideal resource for students on management or executive leadership programmes for the public sector, as well as managers in and consultants to the sector.

On Chester On written by Graeme J. White and has been published by University of Chester this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-05-19 with Education categories.

Although there has been a University of Chester only since 2005, its predecessor, Chester College, dates back further than most UK universities, to 1839. This book celebrates the 175th anniversary of the foundation in 2014. The story is a remarkable one of survival and success. The early College was a pioneering venture with a unique approach to learning and the University still houses the first buildings in England specifically designed for the training of teachers. Three times, in the 1860s, the 1930s and the 1970s, Chester College came near to closure, only repeatedly to emerge intact and to become stronger than before. In the early twenty-first century, the University has a growing reputation within the higher education sector and can claim some of the highest rates of student satisfaction in the country. The book's title is taken from the College motto of the late-Victorian and Edwardian period: as appropriate today as when it was coined.
