Then they find sign of her father, and set out to follow his trail, a trail that leads through mountain valley, across the high country above timberline and down into the flats that are filled with Cheyenne, Crow and Yamparika Ute Indians. With conflict and danger their constant companion, the two young people are forced to turn to one another to survive and hopefully find the girl's father before it's too late.

Few mountains in the state, of whatever elevation, are finer climbs than Richthofen, or afford a more sweeping view. And of towering crags, razor ridges, dizzy pinnacles and breath-taking rock-slides there was no lack on any of the climbs, from the first trip to the very last. Weather, assorted in style and delivered promptly in various sized packages, accompanied every trip. But to the credit of the Never Summers and to Shipler Park as a camp-site, let it be set down here that while an occasional splash of rain speeded the climbers back to camp, no trip was spoiled, and but one was made temporarily uncomfortable by the antics of Father Jupiter Pluvius. Dazzling, high-piled clouds framed the enchanting views from peak after peak, as the trips of the Outing unrolled. As a try-out for the first day, the attention of the party was directed bright and early Monday morning to Shipler mountain, a short but abrupt climb straight out of camp. The down timber and the up-stairs effect of the hillside proved too much for some of the tender party, of whom several fell by the way-side and rolled back down to the dining tent, where Schroeder, "he and his skillet," repaired the greater part of the damage and fitted them for greater things on the morrow.
