Background for our Story As the young girl, her name was Nam-Soon, stepped into the modest apartment building, her heart fluttered with a mix of excitement and nervousness. The real estate agent, a middle-aged woman with a warm smile named Mrs. Lawson, greeted her at the entrance. "Hello, dear. You must be Nam-Soon. I've been expecting you," Mrs. Lawson said kindly. Nam-Soon nodded, offering a shy smile. "Yes, that's me. Thank you for helping me find a place." Mrs. Lawson led Nam-Soon through the narrow hallways, showing her the available rooms. The building wasn't grand, but... "This is a cozy one," Mrs. Lawson said, opening the door to a room with a single window that let in a sliver of daylight. "Affordable, . I believe you'll find it comfortable." Nam-Soon stepped into the room, her eyes scanning the space. It was small, but it felt like a canvas waiting for her to paint her dreams upon. The worn wooden floor creaked beneath her as she walked towards the window. As Nam-Soon looked over the rental agreement, a sinking feeling settled in her stomach. The room's rent was indeed on the higher side, and the reality of her limited funds hit her. With her dream of attending college and making a better life for herself at the forefront of her mind, she knew she had to be financially prudent. Taking a deep breath, Nam-Soon looked up at Mrs. Lawson, her determination unwavering. "Thank you so much for

A compilation of stories from thru-hikers, a unique group of people who every year brave a 2,100 mile trail through every type of weather, every type of circumstance. Gathered from trail registers, postcards, and personal interviews, these voices come alive and evoke the true spirit of the Appalachian Trail, from the lows of ten consecutive days of rain and cold, to the highs of beautiful sunsets and camaraderie. Each spring, a group of people attempt a thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail. Setzer follows these determined hikers from Georgia to Maine. In this new edition, hikers reveal five years later how their experiences on the Trail changed their lives. 'Originally, I was attracted to the AT for the adventure of walking the whole thing at once... Even as I finished, I did not understand those who chose to repeat the walk. But the next spring I found I wanted to go. And I understood that you never walk the same trail twice... I learned that I walk to fill my heart with wonder, to feed my soul.' - Merlin 'I know I'll be out there again. I don't know when and I don't know with whom. But I know, once more I'll live the nomadic life I loved on the Appalachian Trail.' - Trail Gimp Whether documenting their journey or contemplating its impact on their lives, the voices in A Season on the Appalachian Trail will entrance you with their honesty and humanity.
