Re-affirming the Core is the follow-up to author Bryan Shen's first book, The Un-affirmed Core, which sought to remove misconceptions, prejudice, and negative attitudes of people in conservative-religious communities against people with homosexuality. Thereafter, several civil and religious leaders asked him, " Now that you have turned our attitudes around, what do we do?" With the deluge of shallow information and disinformation on the Internet, the urgency to know how to help and protect people struggling silently with non-heterosexuality is increasing every day. The present volume arises from this urgency. In this book, Bryan has put together a structured framework where the psycho-social-familial development of non-heterosexuality can be understood. The knowledge and advice is drawn from his interactions with a population that is very deeply hidden and afraid and is therefore unknown in most media. With support, society can help everyone deal with these complex and sensitive issues.

Homosexuality is not a recent phenomenon or a newly emerged issue. It exists since the ancient time despite the suppression by tradition and culture. It started to surface in recent years as technology and media have developed in racing speed. The society has become more open and acceptive to the topic; people started to reflect on the traditional thinking on human relationship; voices and discussions regarding homosexuality are getting common. The word “homosexuality” which merely means same sex relationship in the past has evolved to LGBTQ which covers Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transgenders and Queers nowadays. Although there are more discussions, do we truly understand LGBTQ? How should we discern the right and wrong? From Christian perspective, how should see it and live with its community? Does the Bible provide us the answer? In the past, when religions are confronted by issues of homosexuality and LGBTQ, they would quickly jump into a conclusion such as “sin”, “against the nature”, “promiscuity”, “unclean” etc. On one hand, religious communities subconsciously hold different attitudes and mindsets toward LGBTQ community; on the other hand, media coverage and celebrity influence exalt the revolution and advocacy of LGBTQ, so that people or religious bodies who hold different point of views may be labeled as “conservative”, “old-fashioned”, “traditional”, “conventional” etc. Over time, a gap has formed between LGBTQ and religious communities. Nevertheless, before we decide between the right and wrong, or give people a label of unrighteousness, could we jump out of the endless quarrel, opposition, or criticism? Could we adjust our perspective to understand, to observe and to contemplate the matter, so that we can better serve this community and walk with them with the love of Christ while we hold on to the law and principle of God? “Homosexuality FAQs – A Christian Perspective” is a wonderful guide for Churches. It helps readers to understand the issue more comprehensively, find out the viewpoints of the Bible, and learn how to reach out and serve LGBTQ community. This book clears doubts and confusions on LGBTQ through 10 questions in the first section. It tries to rebut general arguments from objective and scientific perspective. In the second section, it discusses LGBTQ from biblical perspective through 16 questions. Lastly, the editors laid out 6 questions to discuss the relation between Christians and the society on LGBTQ issue. Each answer begins with “quick response” to give readers the key concept, then followed by elaboration and more supplementary information. This structure is clear and easy to follow. What I appreciate the most is that it does not merely lay out a pile of data and evidence, but also shares ministry tips at the end of some answers, so that readers can break through the frame of merely knowledge, thinking and critique; and more important they can learn how to bridge the gap between the LGBTQ and us, counsel and serve LGBTQ community. Whether you want to know more the issue or feel the burden to serve the LGBTQ community, this book is worth to read. At a time when lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals-often referred to under the umbrella acronym LGBT-are becoming more visible in society and more socially acknowledged, clinicians and researchers are faced with incomplete information about their health status. While LGBT populations often are combined as a single entity for research and advocacy purposes, each is a distinct population group with its own specific health needs. Furthermore, the experiences of LGBT individuals are not uniform and are shaped by factors of race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, geographical location, and age, any of which can have an effect on health-related concerns and needs. The Health of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender People assesses the state of science on the health status of LGBT populations, identifies research gaps and opportunities, and outlines a research agenda for the National Institute of Health. The report examines the health status of these populations in three life stages: childhood and adolescence, early/middle adulthood, and later adulthood. At each life stage, the committee studied mental health, physical health, risks and protective factors, health services, and contextual influences. To advance understanding of the health needs of all LGBT individuals, the report finds that researchers need more data about the demographics of these populations, improved methods for collecting and analyzing data, and an increased participation of sexual and gender minorities in research. The Health of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender People is a valuable resource for policymakers, federal agencies including the National Institute of Health (NIH), LGBT advocacy groups, clinicians, and service providers.

Sex And Sensibility written by Arlene Stein and has been published by Univ of California Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2023-04-28 with Social Science categories.

In the first book to analyze shifts in lesbian identity, consciousness, and culture from the 1970s to the 1990s, Arlene Stein contributes an important chapter to the study of the women's movement and offers a revealing portrait of the exchange between a radical generation of feminists and its successors. Tracing the evolution of the lesbian movement from the bar scene to the growth of alternative families, Stein illustrates how a generation of women transformed the woman-centered ideals of feminism into a culture and a lifestyle. Sex and Sensibility relates the development of a "queer" sensibility in the 1990s to the foundation laid by the gay rights and feminist movements a generation earlier. Beginning with the stories of thirty women who came of age at the climax of the 70s women's movement—many of whom defined lesbianism as a form of resistance to dominant gender and sexual norms—Stein explores the complex issues of identity that these women confronted as they discovered who they were and defined themselves in relation to their communities and to society at large. Sex and Sensibility ends with interviews of ten younger women, members of the post-feminist generation who have made it a fashion to dismiss lesbian feminism as overly idealistic and reductive. Enmeshed in Stein's compelling and personal narrative are coming-out experiences, questions of separatism, work, desire, children, and family. Stein considers the multiple identities of women of color and the experiences of intermittent and "ex" lesbians. Was the lesbian feminist experiment a success? What has become of these ideas and the women who held them? In answering these questions, Stein illustrates the lasting and profound effect that the lesbian feminist movement had, and continues to have, on contemporary women's definitions of sexual identity. This title is part of UC Press's Voices Revived program, which commemorates University of California Press's mission to seek out and cultivate the brightest minds and give them voice, reach, and impact. Drawing on a backlist dating to 1893, Voices Revived makes high-quality, peer-reviewed scholarship accessible once again using print-on-demand technology. This title was originally published in 1997.
