Most Christians have wondered at one time or another if they have committed the unpardonable sin. If this is your fear, be encouraged. You have not committed the unforgivable sin. You are not eternally damned. You are not forsaken by God. You are not hated by God. You are not outside the bounds of His love and grace. Quite to the contrary, you are loved by God more than you possibly know. You are forgiven. You are accepted. In this book, Jeremy Meyers shows why you have not committed the unforgivable sin. He surveys the various views about blasphemy against the Holy Spirit and examines Matthew 12:31-32 to show what Jesus meant when He talked about blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.

This book is the story of a man named Bill who committed such a terrible act against his wife, Beth, one night, that he thought he would never be forgiven by God""much less be forgiven by his wife. He thought he would never be worthy of that grace. Bill knew he had wandered too far from his youthful belief and trust in God, a life centered around his faith in God. As a man in his thirties, he could not find his way back. This is the story of how he labored to find his faith in God through ten years of agony with his alcoholic wife. Then she, too, committed the same unforgivable sin. And more. A miserable existence followed for both of them. But it is also a story of hope and how Bill finds that God is still there and wants to forgive him. God still loves Bill. But it takes a journey for Bill to get there. Bill makes his peace with God and begins to live his life the way he wished he had in his teenage years and then into the early years of his marriage. But he realizes after Beth's death and into his second marriage that he still cannot forgive himself and the way he treated his deceased former wife, Beth. It haunts him, and it is affecting the way he treats his second wife, whom he loves dearly. He realizes that Beth could never forgive herself, and that is what drove her to drink. The memory of her unforgivable sin. Can God forgive me? Can I forgive myself? These are the questions that this book tries to answer. Bill has to find a way to forgive himself, and this book is about how God helped him make that journey.

The unforgivable sin{u2014}blasphemy against the Holy Spirit{u2014}is the subject of debate, curiosity, and even fear for many. Many scholars and theologians have tackled the subject, yet there is no definite interpretation shared by a majority. This thesis focuses on Mark 3:20-35 in an attempt to gain the best possible understanding of the ambiguous sin in question. While several methodologies are used to varying degrees, this thesis focuses on the biblical passage from a narrative-critical perspective. With all aspects of the story being taken into consideration, a few important conclusions are drawn. First and foremost, the unforgivable sin can be defined as intentionally sabotaging the work of God by calling it Satanic. Secondly, while Jesus mentions such a sin because of the scribes from Jerusalem, one cannot conclude that they are guilty of the sin; Jesus{u2019} words may have been a warning. Thirdly, Jesus{u2019} family is clearly depicted as an opponent of Jesus. Finally, if indeed the scribes are in danger of committing an unpardonable sin, so are Jesus{u2019} mother, brothers, and sisters, since their actions are similar to those of the scribes. The importance of such conclusions is significant is both academic and religious circles.

The unpardonable, or unforgivable, sin has been spoken and preached about by many believers, but many do not have a clear grasp of it and are unable to accurately explain what defines this sin. This confusion on the unpardonable sin stems from an unclear understanding of what it truly means and its implications for our eternal life. In Explaining "The Unpardonable Sin" by William L. Wagner, the unpardonable sin is examined to illustrate exactly what it means, which is blaspheming against the Lord, in a number of different contexts. By creating shared and solid beliefs, the piece ensures that both the readers and the author are on the same page from the start so that they can all come to the same conclusion-an agreed, deep comprehension of the unpardonable sin. While Matthew 12:13, "...blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men," sprouts the foundation for the belief that this is the unpardonable sin, William makes it clear that the Word of God emphasizes the fact that all can be forgiven. He explores the New Testament, highlighting the words of Jesus and the gospels to show readers that they do not have to fear; there is no unpardonable sin in the eyes of God, and all have the chance to be saved. William L. Wagner resides in a rural area of central Missouri with his wife. He has worked in manual labor all his life and is now retired. Although he is not a preacher or pastor, his Southern Baptist beliefs call him to share the truth of Jesus Christ with as many people as possible. He hopes that this book offers guidance for readers who are wondering if they are eligible to be saved.
