Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 I was ready to quit my career as a journalist. I had spent six years at the ABC News headquarters in New York City, filing reports for the network and co-hosting World News Now. I was ready to move on. #2 I explain to James that I need to walk away from The View and the weekend anchor desk at GMA. The Wednesday-through-Sunday schedule is killing me. It’s affecting my marriage and keeping me from my kids. #3 The executive had warned me of the long-term vocational implications if I left, but I didn’t blame them. After all, they weren’t the only one. Just days before, when I’d told my co-anchor Dan Harris that I was considering leaving the co-anchor desk, he’d said much the same thing. #4 I had a full portfolio of big interviews in 2017, but the hardest year of my adult life was the previous one, when I thought I was in the clear but ended up having a miscarriage and having to have an emergency surgery due to an infection.

A spellbinding tale of prophecy, power and politics, this book tells the fascinating story of the 17th-century astrologer William Lilly – how his celestial forecasts of the future changed the course of the English Civil War, and the establishment’s attempts to silence him. Winter, 1643. Astrologer William Lilly is gazing at a chamber pot. Parliament has asked him to help: will leader John Pym live or die? Using an ancient astrological technique called horary, Lilly predicts Pym will die in eight days’ time. He is correct. In the pages of his best-selling pamphlets, Lilly enthrals the civil war-torn nation with his uncannily accurate astral forecasts of who will triumph in combat. He advises the New Model Army on when to fight – based on his judgement of King Charles I’s horoscope; the key battle of Naseby is won with this astrological intelligence. Foreseeing the King’s death seals his status as the nation’s arch magus. But not everyone is happy with Parliament’s new prophet and his enemies begin to plot their revenge. Can Lilly’s astonishing gift help him best those in power, and save his profession and his life? With a cast of star-gazers, soldiers and scryers; politicians, priests and prophets, internationally acclaimed author Catherine Blackledge grants a fresh insight into a tumultuous period: illuminating William Lilly’s extraordinary life and revealing the secrets of his astonishing foresight.

Too often we lean into the wrong things and burn out. We buy society's lie that our worth is our work, our value is our vocation, our calling is our career. Confusing what we do with who we are wreaks havoc on our bodies, our souls, and our relationships. Called Out is a deeply personal book from Paula Faris, the beloved on-air reporter for ABC News and former co-host of The View. She shares her journey through conquering fears that nearly kept her from the high-profile, high-stakes world of broadcast journalism, and then the dangers when that world threatened to consume her. She burned out and faced public humiliation, physical breakdowns, and family struggles. But along the way, she heard God gently calling her out of that dangerous place. As she struggled to find who she was outside of what she did, she discovered her true purpose and true calling. Today, she is the host of ABC's popular podcast Journeys of Faith. Written with passion and conviction, this book reflects on what it truly means to be called, how to move past the fear holding you back, and how to walk in God's path for you.

Black Social Television written by Sherri M. Williams and has been published by Rowman & Littlefield this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2024-12-15 with Performing Arts categories.
In this book, Sherri Williams explores the digital activism of the Black social TV audience, a subset of Black Twitter. In addition to demands for social equality and shifts in social justice, Williams argues, the Black social TV audience advocated for a representation revolution in television, leading to some shows being blocked from airing, some being taken off the air, and others even being revived. Williams positions this activism as an extension of Black people's historic advocacy related to the use of their image, dating back a century to when the NAACP attempted to block screenings of the notoriously racist 1915 film The Birth of a Nation. This book details how Black audiences' use of social media impacted the way television is watched, developed, and produced through digital discourse and activism, primarily on Twitter (now known as X). Williams also demonstrates how Black content directors, like Justin Simien and Quinta Brunson, used social networks to develop their content and loyalty among audiences to ultimately bypass Hollywood's traditional gatekeepers. Finally, the book touches on contemporary events, such as the COVID pandemic and Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter, have affected the ways in which Black content creators engage with their content and audience and vice versa. Scholars of television studies, social media studies, cultural studies, and sociology will find this book particularly useful.

The history of a radical group of intellectuals who founded the New Era Fellowship, which shaped human rights precedents and social justice policy in South Africa In 1937 a group of young Capetonians, socialist intellectuals from the Workers’ Party of South Africa, embarked on a project they called the New Era Fellowship (NEF). In doing so they sought to disrupt and challenge not only prevailing political narratives but the very premises – class and ‘race’ – on which they were based. In different forums – public debates, lectures, study circles and cultural events – the seeds of radical thinking were planted, nurtured and brought to full flower. Taking a position of non-collaboration and non-racialism, the NEF played a vital role in challenging society’s responses to events ranging from the problem of taking up arms during the Second World War for an empire intent on stripping people of colour of their human rights to the Hertzog Bills, which foreshadowed apartheid in all its ruthless effectiveness. In subsequent narratives of liberation their significance has been overlooked, even disparaged, and has never been fully understood and acknowledged. By shining a contemporary light on the NEF and locating its contribution in current sociological and political discourse, educationist Crain Soudien shows how its members were at the forefront of redefining the debate about social difference in a racially divided society.

This book studies and evaluates the different translations of the Mu'allaqāt, seven canonical pre-Islamic odes, from Arabic into English and French. First, it introduces the Mu'allaqāt and the chief controversies related to their study in both Eastern and Western scholarship. It then presents the translators of the Mu'allaqāt and their translations and closes with two typologies of the translations and translators presented. A number of criteria for the evaluation of translations of poetry are developed. The book provides a comparative study of the English and French translations of the Mu'allaqāt with a focus on a number of communicative priorities in the source text, based on stylistic devices that require a sound awareness of the culture of pre-Islamic Arabia, the main setting of the Mu'allaqāt. The author assesses the reliability of the criteria of evaluation and the translatability of the Mu'allaqāt as a text that is remote from its translators in time, in place, and with respect to literary tradition.
