The Tradition of the Elders, based on Matt 15:1-20 and Mark 7:1-23, explores how the oral law upheld and promoted the anti-Christian forces of Pharisaism and Sadduceism. As such, they appear repeatedly in the New Testament documents, often as "the law" and "the works of the law." For example, consider: - "When Gentiles who have not the law do by nature what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law" (Rom 2:14). - "We ourselves, who are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners, yet who know that a man is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ, and not by works of the law, because by works of the law shall no one be justified" (Gal 2:15-16). - "Tell me, you who desire to be under law, do you not hear the law?" (Gal 4:21). But which law do these legal references concern--the Torah, the oral law, or the Decalogue? This important distinction between the oral law and the Ten Commandments is what The Tradition of the Elders sets out to make clear. All New Testament exegetes, including teachers and students, can benefit from an increased understanding of the enmity of the oral law against the Gospel. .embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }

Respect And Care For The Elderly written by Kyu-t'ak Sŏng and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Older people categories.

Dr. Kyu-taik Sung's research on filial piety spans three decades. Many of his past writings have focused on East Asian elders, and this new text carries that theme forward as well. One main objective of this volume is to introduce to the West the caring attitudes and behaviors of East Asian people toward elderly persons. Findings are based on qualitative and quantitative data obtained from a series of empirical studies conducted in the East and West. These studies are grounded in the traditional East Asian values of family care, reciprocity, and humaneness. Despite the fact that filial piety has influenced peoples for generations, the concept of filial piety remains too general and abstract to provide clear guidelines for practice and research. Of the various expressions of filial piety, elder respect is the most stressed and prominent. Elder respect remains as an essential element in uplifting elders' statuses; integrating them more fully into the family and society; and providing them with proper and humane care and services. Articles in this volume explore specific categories and measures indicating behavioral and attitudinal expressions of elder respect in these changing times. Readers in the East and West who are interested in cultural differences and similarities between the two cultures will find this text very useful in understanding elder care and support.

"A historically isolated people, the Tibetans have now indeed come to the land of the red man, and nearly every other country on earth. When the Chinese invaded the country in 1959 and proceeded to destroy the ancient-wisdom culture as well as nearly a sixth of the population, hundreds of thousands of Tibetans fled to India and parts west. In the 1980s, the prophecy was fulfilled, and the Dalai Lama, exiled leader of Tibet, met with Hopi and other American Indian elders in an effort to reunite the brothers." "Tibet's spiritual elders are dying off, and it is with them that so many of the secrets of survival lie. They are the ones who can find by touching someone's wrist what our medicine cannot detect; they saw the empty spaces of the atom before science considered the concept of subatomic particles; they know how to realign even severe emotional imbalances without drugs or therapy; they know what plants heal us (they have catalogued more than two thousand) and how to save them from destruction; they predicted the demise of their own country at the hands of the Chinese; they saw the coming of AIDS almost ten centuries ago. These people are dying off, and with them, the wisdom we need to make it through the next century and beyond." "After the Chinese occupation of their country, many Tibetan elders were killed in reeducation camps. Many survived, however, to escape what has now become a brutally oppressive environment. Sandy Johnson traveled around the world gathering the life stories and teachings of Tibetan doctors, the state oracle, the previous Dalai Lama's tailor, the great women masters - the entire range of the culture. An astrologer offers to produce Sandy's chart, including the date of her death; a stone carver shows her the rocks with prayers painted on them that he places in the river at the end of every day so that the water may carry blessings to everything it touches; Johnson meets a woman of indeterminate age who lives her life in a cave praying that people might be less distracted by material things and learn to care for each other again. At the same time, Johnson herself is on a spiritual quest, and interwoven with the stories of the elders comes her own physical healing as well as a long-awaited reconciliation with her family. The book is filled with predictions made by the Tibetan elders about the course of Johnson's life - most of which have already come true."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Society needs elders (as distinguished from leaders) to progress. A progressive society is not a “liberal” society but one that solves issues for its citizens so they can live better lives. Numerous examples of current societal issues are presented. These issues cannot be resolved by continuing to classifying them as liberal / conservative, democrat / republican, etc. as such labeling is First Half (FH) of life thinking. Resolutions can be obtained by approaching issues with Second Half (SH) or elder thinking. The wisdom of an elder / sage does not result from obtaining a level of education, job posting, reaching a certain age, or retirement. Elder status can arise either from years of natural development or by individual election. Current leaders have essentially stifled natural elder development. The second way is achieved when the individual is humbled (often by experiencing devastation by life’s events) and then chooses to undertake an uncertain new journey. This book calls for the individual to make that election and tells how to do it.
