The Willowdale Weavers, A Baby Boomer's Tale is the true story of a group of boys growing up in Toronto in the 1950s, 60s, and 70s. Weaving is a term used to describe the playing of practical jokes on other kids, and involved things like pulling someone's shorts down in gym class or putting a dead mouse in their sleeping bag. To the Weavers, being able to trick or fool another Weaver, is the greatest weave of all. These are called major weaves and tended to be more elaborate; often resembling police tactical operations; many conducted in the middle of the night. This is also an intimate memoir about one little boy who grew up feeling afraid of the world around him. This is not a book that glorifies bullying or the mistreatment of others. Rather, it is a story about the coming of age of some best friends growing up in a different world than we live in today. We lived what we learned, and despite the hair raising nature of some of our escapades, we never really felt like we were terribly bad kids. The Willowdale Weavers are all still alive and most of us still get together twice a year.
