DRIP follows Buffalo New York Police Inspector Dave "Soop" Alexander as his team works to solve three particularly gruesome and seemingly related copycat murder cases, including the assassination of the mayor of Buffalo, New York. Alexander is assisted by visiting Woman Police Constable (WPC) Janet Angus from Edinburgh, Scotland. Alexander's team solves each case by using highly focused police work and the practice of medically injecting suspects with a sodium Amytal drip (truth serum). DRIP has it all forensics, professional descriptions of gruesome crime scenes, international searches, gang murder, dead bodies in the Niagara River, and a highly charged romance for the two lead investigating officers as they work to solve the murders.

The aim of this book is quite ambitious: here, we attempt to bridge the gap between soH physicists, agronomists, horticulturists, hydraulic engineers, de signers, manufacturers and users of drip irrigation systems. We believe that progress in drip irrigation hinges on the contributions of professionals made in all related disciplines and their cooperation. The last decade has seen great development in the field of drip irrigation, al though the drip-irrigated area has not increased at the same rate as in the pre vious decade. However, our understanding of the processes involved in water and solute distribution and in plant response has increased vastly. The tools for op timal design of drip systems have improved tremendously. The main progress has been in the development and in the manufacture of sophisticated equipment; not only improved types of emitters and laterals, but also auxiliary equipment such as new filtration systems, controllers and sensors. In this book we highlight the need to maintain a proper balance between the hydraulic design of drip systems and aspects of their management and maintenance. Drip irrigation has a potential for high water use efficiency, but many well-designed systems suffer from bad management. We are indebted to the late Eshel Bresler for his contribution to our under standing of water and solute movement under drip irrigation and its appli cation to system design. Every season, with alarming predictability, yet another graphic design book sets out to capture definitively the zeitgeist. The blurb always makes the same claim: that the book shows the work of the newest, youngest, most innovative designers. This restless search is self-perpetuating, can never be sated and ultimately intensifies nagging fears and insecurities among designers. An understanding of design history has the reverse effect. It explains who we are and sets contemporary work in an expansive and broad landscape, one that is more objective and less introspective. Without knowledge and experience we are lost, floating in a sea of unanswered questions. Drip-dry shirts seeks to answer some of the questions. Book jacket.

Initially associated with hi-tech irrigated agriculture, drip irrigation is now being used by a much wider range of farmers in emerging and developing countries. This book documents the enthusiasm, spread and use of drip irrigation systems by smallholders but also some disappointments and disillusion faced in the global South. It explores and explains under which conditions it works, for whom and with what effects. The book deals with drip irrigation 'behind the scenes', showcasing what largely remain 'untold stories'. Most research on drip irrigation use plot-level studies to demonstrate the technology’s ability to save water or improve efficiencies and use a narrow and rather prescriptive engineering or economic language. They tend to be grounded in a firm belief in the technology and focus on the identification of ways to improve or better realize its potential. The technology also figures prominently in poverty alleviation or agricultural modernization narratives, figuring as a tool to help smallholders become more innovative, entrepreneurial and business minded. Instead of focusing on its potential, this book looks at drip irrigation-in-use, making sense of what it does from the perspectives of the farmers who use it, and of the development workers and agencies, policymakers, private companies, local craftsmen, engineers, extension agents or researchers who engage with it for a diversity of reasons and to realize a multiplicity of objectives. While anchored in a sound engineering understanding of the design and operating principles of the technology, the book extends the analysis beyond engineering and hydraulics to understand drip irrigation as a sociotechnical phenomenon that not only changes the way water is supplied to crops but also transforms agricultural farming systems and even how society is organized. The book provides field evidence from a diversity of interdisciplinary case studies in sub-Saharan Africa, the Mediterranean, Latin America, and South Asia, thus revealing some of the untold stories of drip irrigation.

“Lips are sealed with voices ‘unhealed’; the pain continues its journey in an ostracized screech. “Enervated of the same, when heart and mind collaborate, revolution and protest drip down from the inner-selves. Lip Drip, is thus, a book with insightful pieces of co-authors’ who believe to perceive the world beyond ‘binaries’, trying to reflect the same in their narrated frames with words that cross the boundary of “shame”!
