A celebration of the rich and varied work of Italian-born American artist, designer, and master of metal, Harry Bertoia From chapel altarpieces and bronze fountains, to wire chairs and silver brooches, Harry Bertoia's creative output was varied in the extreme. This new book explores his entire career: his move from Italy to Detroit at 15; his formative years at Cranbrook; his work with Charles Eames and Knoll; through to his fascinating sound sculptures. In doing so, the book demonstrates how seemingly disparate works are in fact united in being reflections of nature, and places Bertoia's art squarely at the heart of American modernism.

When Louisa Bystander, en eleven-year-old girl living with her uncle in a small west coast town in the early part of this century, helps two older ladies move in next door to her dour classmate Jeely Jameson, she is encouraged by them to make friends with him and his wheelchair-bound sister Julie. The two women, Maudie and Mary Etta, pass on to Louisa a remembrance of the light, which ignites in her the ability to channel healing energy. She heals Julie, who passes the remembrance of the light on to her brother. Their summer together, filled with adventures that free each of the three children from the hardships of their young lives, ends abruptly when Louisa is called away to join her missing father and to heal him from his own trauma. The story of the three childrens summer together is related by Louisa, now in her early sixties, to her granddaughter Addie. It is fifty years later, and the world has passed through the shift in consciousness from chaos into a global sense of connection to all of life. Addie, having moved closer to her grandmother because her alignment with universal flow guided her to do so, finds herself living in the same house once occupied by Maudie and Mary Etta, next door to a now sixty-something Jeely Jameson. She hears from his perspective the story of that long-ago summer and is moved to re-introduce him to his childhood friend, her grandmother. When she does, an almost instantaneous bond is renewed between Louisa and Jeely. Jeely shows Louisa and Addie the results of his and his sisters own ignited talents. Julie, before she died four years earlier, became adept at remote viewing and out-of-body space and time travel, and Jeely, using the innovative advances in technology, translated and recorded her journeys into multi-sensory experiences easily conveyed to others. They all decide to share some of Julies multi-sensory holograms with various audiences around the world. Their first presentation includes the flight of a no-longer endangered condor, the ecstasy of being a dolphin, the global sense of oneness conveyed by the consciousness of a river, and Julies own final departure from her body into what she called Great Mystery. During the narrative, the author offers insights into a possible timeline in which the family of humanity no longer needs governments or boundaries, no longer experiences poverty, crime, or war, no longer abuses the generosity of Earth, and no longer feels separate from Life itself. The divine masculine and divine feminine have come together in joyful, playful, meaningful cooperation, enhanced by the love that emanates from Source Consciousness interacting with the infinite expressions of Itself.

Harry Bertoia, Sculptor is devoted to the life and work of a twentieth-century Italian-born American artist whose important commissions are located in twenty-five American cities from New York to Seattle and from Minneapolis to Miami. It traces the development of Bertoia’s versatile career from his youth in Detroit, beginning with drawings, paintings, and monoprints, then jewelry and furniture designs, to his abstract sculptures in metals, many of architectural proportions. The book includes a biography of the man and detailed descriptions of his methods of working. Many major sculptures and some minor ones are described in detail. They are critically analyzed for their aesthetic components and the ideas they were intended to express. A large number of photographs supplements the descriptions and analyses. Two appendixes give chronologies of the artist’s life and of his architectural commissions, the latter virtually a catalog of Bertoia’s major works. Based on several extensive interviews with the artist, as well as on research into his earlier writings, the book includes Bertoia's thoughts on aesthetics and various phases of the art processes he uses. His work is categorized into four major aesthetic explorations that interested him most of his life.

Eighteen years have passed since Rachel Bayer, on her way to South Africa in 1987, fell in love with Sayer Riis and his earnest search for the origin of the soul. She is 38, married, has two children, and teaches a course called Perspectives at an alternative school in Santa Barbara, so why does she feel so compelled, when his brother Thatcher calls, to fly halfway around the world to attend Sayers funeral? Thatcher shows her a drawerful of three-by-five notebooks, which she discovers are letters to her, records of Sayers travels: to a monumental rock in the American Southwest, where he finds a symbol he carved in a past life; to a Tijuana cancer clinic, where he meets a man who deepens his understanding of death, disease, and healing as choices of the soul; to Guatemala, where he is invited to expect the impossible, and, drawn through dimensions by an angelic little girl, sees Rachel in the life she chose for herself when she returned from the Peace Corps. In the last dated notebook, Sayer is told by an old San, This bone look for you. He is hurtled through a window in time to discover Rachels long buried secret. The same bone, which was given to her in Botswana at the birth of her daughter Sara, is handed to Rachel by a mysterious little man after Sayers funeral. Rachel finally reveals her secret to Sayers brother. Another notebook is found in the car in which Sayer died. In it, he has concluded that death is no victor in disguise, but only an imagined boundary between the infinite number of realities in the ever-unfolding Mystery of the All. The success of his lifes search reveals itself to Rachel as she finds immediate responses to her questions with each turning of the page. Rachel and her daughter visit the monument where Sayer carved the Mayan symbol for unseen forces. While Rachel finds a cave and experiences a cosmic breakthrough into the vastness of infinity and eternity, Sara, climbing the Rock, loses her footing and is rescued by a stranger. Fourteen years later, Mira Lucci, watching her five-year-old grandson Max heal her neighbor, suspects that he is one of the souls who have come to assist humanity to awaken to its natural powers. Max mentions finding a bone in Botswana, which means nothing to Mira, but something else he says reminds her of the clinic in Tijuana, where she and her dying father met a young man whose name she never learned. Max speaks with birds, exercises telekinesis, and, surveying a family re-union from his perch on the back of the couch, seems to be the only one who understands the connections among all the members of his family.
