Excerpt from The World's Great Religions and the Religion of the Future This book is based upon a series of addresses on "The World's Great Religions," delivered, without notes, on successive Sunday evenings in the winter of 1921 at the Meetinghouse of the Society for Ethical Culture of New York. Several hundred signed requests for their publication were received by the author, but because of the pressure of imperative duties only those addresses included in the Semitic group were written out aid are here reproduced as nearly as possible in their original form, together with the introductory and closing lectures of the series. What has been here essayed is a presentation, not only of what the great Semitic religions stand for, but also, and more especially, of their distinctive features. That which differentiates each from all the rest is summed up in the sentence printed under each chapter-title. The reader is respectfully requested to remember that while the author is identified with the Society for Ethical Culture, this organization is not to be regarded as in any way sponsor for his views. A cardinal characteristic of the Society for Ethical Culture is the freedom of its fellowship. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Future Of Peace And Justice In The Global Village written by Thomas R. McFaul and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2006-09-30 with Religion categories.

Many authors have written on the effect technology, economics, and politics have on globalization, but few have addressed the potential impact of world religions on the future direction of globalization. McFaul's fascinating book explores what others have not: the part the world's major religions—Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam—will play in bringing either greater peace and justice or hatred and hostility to the global village. Will these religions, which exert the greatest amount of influence worldwide, be a force for good or ill in the emerging global village of the 21st century? This book answers that question and more. Covering the religions to which the majority of world's population adheres, it offers insight into the commonalities, differences, and potential for coming together to create peace to be found among the major faiths. The world's seven major religions are covered, and topics such as sexuality, ethics, violence, and the tension between secular and sacred arenas are discussed for each. McFaul argues that if the leaders and laity of these religions are able to find common ground, efforts toward peace and justice in the global village can be more effective and lasting. If they accentuate their differences, he suggests, they will only produce more hatred and hostility.

The Great Religions written by Pietro Archiati and has been published by Temple Lodge Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998 with History categories.

Taking a radical departure from the usual comparative study of religion, Pietro Archiati shows that the various religions represent stages in each individual's path of development. In this sense the Great Religions create an absolute unity--not in what they say or teach, but in their contribution to each of us becoming ever more human. Beginning with the Flood of Atlantis, Archiati places the religions in the context of human evolution, taking us through the development of Buddhism, Zarathustrianism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and onwards to the future of religion based on spiritual reality. For example, Archiati considers how the founders of the various religions are working today. Are the Buddha, Krishna, Moses and Zarathustra doing and telling us the same things now as they were in the past, even though humanity has undergone considerable changes since?

In The Future of Religion and the Religion of the Future, Theodore John Rivers explores the changing relationship between technology and religion. Rivers draws upon his expertise in the fields of medieval and religious history to discuss how the promotion of Christianity and monasticism in the Middle Ages began a process that has lent religious undertones to the way in which we interact with modern technology. Rivers ultimately suggests that the growing presence of technology makes it a likely candidate for the next religious form, competing with all the major religions in place today.

The Religion Of The Future written by Roberto Mangabeira Unger and has been published by Verso Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-10-25 with Philosophy categories.

A new philosophy of religion for a secular world How can we live in such a way that we die only once? How can we organize a society that gives us a better chance to be fully alive? How can we reinvent religion so that it liberates us instead of consoling us? These questions stand at the center of Roberto Mangabeira Unger’s The Religion of the Future: an argument for both spiritual and political revolution. It proposes the content of a religion that can survive without faith in a transcendent God or in life after death. According to this religion—the religion of the future—human beings can be more human by becoming more godlike, not just later, in another life or another time, but right now, on Earth and in their own lives. They can become more godlike without denying the irreparable flaws in the human condition: our mortality, groundlessness, and insatiability.

The Religion Of Tomorrow written by Ken Wilber and has been published by Shambhala Publications this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-05-01 with Philosophy categories.

A provocative examination of how the great religious traditions can remain relevant in modern times by incorporating scientific truths learned about human nature over the last century A single purpose lies at the heart of all the great religious traditions: awakening to the astonishing reality of the true nature of ourselves and the universe. At the same time, through centuries of cultural accretion and focus on myth and ritual as ends in themselves, this core insight has become obscured. Here, Ken Wilber provides a path for re-envisioning a religion of the future that acknowledges the evolution of humanity in every realm while remaining faithful to that original spiritual vision. For the traditions to attract modern men and women, Wilber asserts, they must incorporate the extraordinary number of scientific truths learned about human nature in just the past hundred years—for example, about the mind and brain, emotions, and the growth of consciousness—that the ancients were simply unaware of and thus were unable to include in their meditative systems. Taking Buddhism as an example, Wilber demonstrates how his comprehensive Integral Approach—which is already being applied to several world religions by some of their adherents—can avert a “cultural disaster of unparalleled proportions”: the utter neglect of the glorious upper reaches of human potential by the materialistic postmodern worldview. Moreover, he shows how we can apply this approach to our own spiritual practice. This, his most sweeping work since Sex, Ecology, Spirituality, is a thrilling call for wholeness, inclusiveness, and unity in the religions of tomorrow.
