The words in this book are primarily based on the wisdom of "The Yoga Sūtras of Patāñjali," a compilation of "threads" (sūtras) that put into words all that is yoga. The source material for most of this book comes from this text, translated by Śrī Svāmī Saccidānanda. Although many forms of yoga exist, "The Yogic Lifestyle: A Foundation for Freedom" is based on the teachings of Aṣṭāṅga Yoga and the eight-limbed path to achieve ultimate liberation. But instead of displaying this information in order of those limbs, I have chosen a different path, one that can be easily understood from the circumstances that surround us in a contemporary and Western society. A person does not need to be a yoga practitioner or have any experience with yoga to gain wisdom from the Yoga Sūtras. This book focuses on relationships first (ultimate union) as a guide to moral integrity and purity. Next is health, as one needs a sound body, mind, and spirit to achieve union. And third, the text focuses on abundance, not necessarily in gaining vast amounts of riches, but the kind of prosperity that allows us to actualize financial freedom and supportive resources. It is through a yogic lifestyle that one can actualize liberation, changing the world from the inside out.

Yoga is the path to actualization. In Sanskrit, a beautiful and sacred language you will see throughout these pages, the word yoga translates to "union". Union, in this sense, is the ultimate liberation from suffering. It is the joy of Being. It is the contentment felt when one sheds all earthly desires, attachments, and fears. It is unfettered freedom.Although many forms of yoga exist, "The Yogic Lifestyle: A Foundation for Freedom" is based on the teachings of Aṣṭāṅga Yoga and the eight-limbed path to achieve ultimate liberation. But instead of displaying this information in order of those limbs, I have chosen a different path, one that can be easily understood from the circumstances that surround us in a contemporary and Western society. Through the use of pure, non-stimulating foods, the plan helps the reader reach a state of bliss and tranquility each day. The book starts by explaining the body’s chakra system and how this is integral to a yogic lifestyle. The core of the book is the simple, 7-day plan which incorporates breathing exercises, meditations, basic yoga practice, daily tasks, and then a selection of recipes for breakfast, lunch and dinner that target each of your 7 chakras to take you through a whole week. The 80 recipes follow a sattvic food model – this means that the food is lacto-vegetarian i.e. fruit, vegetables and dairy predominate while stimulating foods that unsettle the mind are excluded, such as eggs, garlic, onion and caffeine. Examples include Raspberry & Apple Bircher with Pistachio Confetti; Blueberry & Basil Kombucha with Poached Pear & Rhubarb; Fennel, Beetroot & Orange Salad with Whipped Feta; and Grilled Lettuce, Corn & Black Bean Chop Salad.

Introduction There is a plethora of meditation, yoga, health, nutrition, and cookbooks on the market. Many of them address a specific diet or dogma, in which they treat the person as if we all have the exact same body and mind. One can argue that in essence we are all the same, but on a functioning level, we sure are different. This book describes a holistic system to accomplish a yogic lifestyle within the modern world. Traditional concepts of yoga are explained in clear, contemporary terminology. You will find Sanskrit names with English translations. The book offers a toolbox of the most efficient practices that may fit into today’s lifestyle, mining tradition to create powerful contemporary practices. Kept simple, the book provides foundations without an overwhelming amount of unnecessary detail, and provides essentials that can be utilized right away in life. The Yoga Lifestyle introduces the concept of the flexitarian. If you’ve heard the term, it’s probably with respect to the flexitarian diet, which most people define as a diet that is mostly vegetarian or vegan but does include some fish, poultry, and meat on occasion. The book looks at the flexitarian diet and expands upon those principles to create an entire flexitarian lifestyle. The Yoga Lifestyle aims to create the best life possible, without the stress. It seeks the healthiest life options for each individual, according to his or her needs. Is This Book for You? Have you ever wanted to: • • Understand yoga and learn how to build your own practice? • • Know your body type and balance your life? • • Live in sustainable health and happiness? • • Be empowered with practical and efficient tools for a healthy lifestyle? • • Develop a steady and focused mind? • • Become stronger and toned, without lifting weights? • • Become flexible, without being a ballerina? The Yoga Lifestyle is great for anyone willing to take responsibility for his or her own life. It is based on the research of many yoga traditions (mostly from the ashtanga vinyasa tradition), mind and meditation practices (mostly Buddhist and Gestalt), as well as most health diets, both modern and traditional (Ayurveda, blood type, macrobiotic, raw food). It takes the best from each dogma and presents a system that each person can adapt to meet his or her individual needs.
