Manfred Ullmann hat die Erfahrungen niedergelegt, die er in den funf Jahrzehnten seiner Tatigkeit fur das Worterbuch der Klassischen Arabischen Sprache gesammelt hat. Er legt damit zugleich Rechenschaft ab uber seine angewandten lexikografischen Methoden und uber die Anderungen, die er an den ursprunglichen Konzeptionen von August Fischer und Jorg Kraemer vorgenommen hat. Das Buch ist ein Leitfaden zur sachgerechten Benutzung des Worterbuchs. Insbesondere ist auf die Bedeutung der Textzitate verwiesen und auf die Moglichkeiten, aus ihnen ein Bild der historischen Entwicklung der Sprache zu gewinnen. Dadurch kann das normative, statische Bild der 'Arabiya, das die arabischen Gelehrten des Mittelalters gezeichnet haben und das in den Lexika von Freytag und Lane konserviert ist, abgelost werden. Schliesslich soll das Buch den kunftigen Lexikografen, die das WKAS fortsetzen oder andere Worterbucher oder Glossare in Angriff nehmen mochten, Anregungen und Hinweise geben.

Aristotle's theory of eternal continuous motion and his argument from everlasting change and motion to the existence of an unmoved primary cause of motion, provided in book VIII of his Physics, is one of the most influential and persistent doctrines of ancient Greek philosophy. Nevertheless, the exact wording of Aristotle's discourse is doubtful and contentious at many places. The present critical edition of Ishaq ibn Hunayn's Arabic translation (9th c.) is supposed to replace the faulty edition by A. Badawi and aims at contributing to the clarification of these textual difficulties by means of a detailed collation of the Arabic text with the most important Greek manuscripts, supported by comprehensive Greek and Arabic glossaries.

Dabei werden sowohl Ergebnisse der Forschung als auch die Anforderungen an das konkrete Wörterbuch berücksichtigt. Die einzelnen Teilbereiche - Wortbildung, Phraseologie und Partikeln - sind ausgewählt worden, weil sie im Hinblick auf das Sprachenpaar Deutsch und Ungarisch als besonders problemträchtig und in der einschlägigen Literatur bislang noch nicht zufriedenstellend oder überhaupt nicht behandelt worden sind.
