A Thinking Person S Guide To Our Times written by H.R.H. Prince Ghazi Bin Muhammad and has been published by Turath Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020 with Religion categories.

The present book aims to take on this challenge by looking at the major problems from these various aspects, as just mentioned. Obviously, one short book can hardly address all these problems and suggest solutions without certain simplifications and potentially controversial assertions. Nevertheless, it can hope to present a systematic analysis and suggested prognosis based on a coherent philosophy. As indicated above, nothing is more needed in our times, and second to spiritual weakening, the greatest problem of all facing the Islamic World (and indeed the whole world) is lack of understanding of the true natures and essences of things. This book examines ‘our times’ from an Islamic philosophical worldview, looking at the problems facing the Islamic World in the near past, present and future respectively in three mutually complementary parts. At the end of each part, it suggests holistic and easily applied remedies to the problems it examines. In other words (and for those who enjoy sonorous German and Greek philosophical terms) it examines the Zeitgeist from the Weltanschauung of Islam and suggests panaceas. Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad has written a number of books and guides for thinking people, and this small but potent work before you sums up many of his most keen and cogent insights and conclusions; for that reason, this may be his most impactful and motivational work to date.

Since the mid-1980s, Gerald Nosich has been committed to teaching Critical Thinking across the curriculum and throughout the disciplines. He believes that in the final analysis the only way for students to master content in any course is to "think" their way through it. And the only way to effectively control their own lives and choices is by learning to think more critically about them. Built on Richard Paul's model of critical thinking, "Learning to Think Things Through" was written to help students engage in critical thinking within the discipline or subject matter they are studying. In addition, students will better appreciate the power of the discipline they are studying, see its connections to other fields and to their day-to-day lives, maintain an overview of the field so they can see the parts in terms of the whole, and become active learners rather than passive recipients of information. "Learning to Think Things Through" is ideal for instructors addressing the critical thinking component in composition courses, sciences, humanities, the professions--in any field.

A practical introduction to critical thinking across various disciplines Knowing how to think critically about what to believe and what to do is essential for success in both academic and professional environments. A Practical Guide to Critical Thinking introduces readers to the concepts, methods, and standards for thinking critically about reasons and arguments in virtually any area of practice. While most literature on critical thinking focuses on its formal applications within philosophy, this book offers a broad conception of critical thinking and explores its practical relevance to conducting research across a wide variety of disciplines, including business, education, and the biological sciences. While the book pursues an interdisciplinary approach to critical thinking, providing examples and illustrations from diverse subjects and fields of research, it also provides strategies to help readers identify the methods and standards that are characteristic of critical thinking in their chosen branches of learning, in their workplace, and in their own lives. The concept of an argument is extended beyond its philosophical roots to include experimentation, testing, measurement, policy development and assessment, and aesthetic appreciation as activities that require critical thinking. The logical, core concepts of critical thinking are presented in a rigorous yet informal way, with creative and practical strategies for defining, analyzing, and evaluating reasons and arguments wherever they are found. Each chapter ends with a "Mistakes to Avoid" section as well as a variety of exercises designed to help readers integrate and extend the chapter's lessons. A Practical Guide to Critical Thinking is an excellent book for courses on critical thinking and logic at the upper-undergraduate and graduate levels. It is also an appropriate reference for anyone with a general interest in critical thinking skills.

A guide to identifying, nurturing and growing our insight and creativity for more effective thinking. We know that our minds are capable of great things because, every now and then, they come out with a very brilliant idea or two. However, our minds are also tantalisingly unpredictable, spending worryingly large stretches of time idling or distracting themselves. This is a book about how to optimise these beautiful yet fitful instruments so that they can more regularly and generously produce the sort of insights and ideas we need to fulfil our potential – and achieve the contentment we deserve. We learn – among other things – how to grasp fragile and flighty thoughts before they disappear through anxiety and fear, at what times of day to try to work and for how long, how to make use of our boredom and instincts – and how to overcome timid and predictable approaches to the largest problems.

How To Think written by Alan Jacobs and has been published by Profile Books this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-10-26 with Philosophy categories.

How to Think is a contrarian treatise on why we're not as good at thinking as we assume - but how recovering this lost art can rescue our inner lives from the chaos of modern life. Most of us don't want to think, writes the American essayist Alan Jacobs. Thinking is trouble. It can force us out of familiar, comforting habits, and it can complicate our relationships with like-minded friends. Finally, thinking is slow, and that's a problem when our habits of consuming information (mostly online) leave us lost in the echo chamber of social media, where speed and factionalism trump accuracy and nuance. In this clever, witty book, Jacobs diagnoses the many forces that prevent thought - forces that have only worsened in the age of Twitter, such as "alternative facts," and information overload. He also dispels the many myths we hold about what it means to think well. (For example: it's impossible to "think for yourself.") Drawing on sources as far-flung as the novelist Marilynne Robinson, the basketball legend Wilt Chamberlain, the British philosopher John Stuart Mill and the Christian theologian C.S. Lewis, Jacobs digs into the nuts and bolts of the cognitive process, offering hope that each of us can reclaim our mental lives from the whirlpool of what now passes for public debate. After all, if we can learn to think together, perhaps we can learn to live together.

Spatial thinking is an activity that we do throughout our lives and across many settings, to understand problems and seek solutions. The practice can be so automatic that it becomes deceptively obvious, but when it is not done carefully, it can lead to chaos and confusion. In this brief and accessible guide, we see how spatial concepts help us think across the geographies of our life spaces, physical and social spaces, and intellectual space. Spatial thinking may be particularly essential within the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math, but in reality it is an important part of everyone's living experience. Spatial thinking is a form of learning how to learn.

Have you ever heard a Bible interpretation or a scientifically-based argument that just didn't seem correct? Did you wish you knew how to show that it wasn't true? In a postmodern society, Christians are increasingly confronted with assertions that contradict the principles they believe. They need to be able to critically analyze arguments and know how to refute, in a gentle way, those assertions that are not true. In order to do this Christians need three sets of skills: -hermeneutical skills -- to know how to accurately interpret God's Word and be able to correct misinterpretations of Scripture; -research design and statistical skills -- to be able to examine statements about God's world and evaluate whether or not they represent valid conclusions from the data; -knowledge of logical fallacies -- in order to be able to identify when invalid inductive or deductive conclusions were being drawn, either from God's Word or from research studies about God's world. This book will help you be able to do the following: -know and use valid hermeneutical skills; -understand research design and statistical analysis techniques; -recognize logical fallacies and replace them with accurate analyses. An excellent resource for pastors, Sunday school teachers, and group leaders, this book is as practical as it is valuable for persons who want to discern truth and refute error in a spirit of love.
