L’emergenza, da questo punto di vista, si trasforma in un’opportunità nazionale e individuale. Il lockdown ha consentito alle nostre menti di muoversi, creando nuove idee e spingendo decisori pubblici e cittadini a pensare fuori dagli schemi. The pandemic caused by Covid-19 represents the piece of an articulated puzzle that had been tracing itself for several years. The virus and its effects in fact provide the perfect fit to the dynamics already underway, accelerating movements of political and civic masses that would otherwise have been more gradual and tortuous. And this is how the virus offers itself to us as a lens through which to observe changes in paradigms and at the same time trace the continuity of national strategies. Some countries, which tend to be hegemonic, will not change their attitude for long. This was demonstrated by the most intense phases of the crisis which saw some states move according to what could be called imperialist tendencies. The disease proceeds far from homogeneous and the contagion follows different timings, thus offering opportunities for competition. From this point of view, the emergency turns into a national and individual opportunity. The lockdown has allowed our minds to move, creating new ideas and pushing public decision makers and citizens to think outside the box. Through an in-depth analysis of international geopolitics at the time of Covid-19, «Thinking outside the box» invites the reader to look beyond borders, because if there is a certain aspect in the midst of the uncertainty of the crisis, it is that what is afterwards, it will not be the same as what we are facing and used to know.

Recently, technology and aging have been key research areas in human cognition. The Research Topic “Digital Skills and Life-long Learning: Digital Learning as a New Insight of Enhanced Learning by the Innovative Approach Joining Technology and Cognition” investigated technology's impact on cognitive and intellective processes, highlighting how intensively technology can change and/or enhance the cognitive functioning throughout one’s lifespan. The aim of this Research Topic was to provide an outlook through multidisciplinary research and development while addressing the dynamic intersection of cognition, mind, and technology. Our scope was 1) to favor the cognitive technology debate, 2) to overcome the dichotomies of technology and psychology, 3) to emphasize the advances in knowledge and well-being. This Research Topic comprises review studies and original articles, focused on digital skills that enhance human potential. Despite dramatic improvements in the security environment in most parts of Iraq, still unresolved are many core political issues, foremost of which is the conflict over the city and region of Kirkuk. With immense oil reserves and a diverse population of Kurds, Arabs, and Turkmens, Kirkuk in recent history has been scarred by interethnic violence and state-sponsored ethnic cleansing. Throughout the twentieth century, successive Arab Iraqi governments engaged in a brutal campaign to increase Kirkuk's Arab population at the expense of Kurds and Turkmens. Following the invasion of Iraq in 2003, a newly empowered Kurdish leadership has sought to reverse the effects of the Arabization campaign and to hold a referendum on incorporating Kirkuk into the Kurdistan Region. The Kurds' efforts are, however, strongly opposed by Kirkuk's Turkmens, Arabs, and also most states in the region. In Crisis in Kirkuk, Liam Anderson and Gareth Stansfield offer a dispassionate analysis of one of Iraq's most pressing and unresolved problems. Drawing on extensive research and fieldwork, the authors investigate the claims to ownership made by each of Kirkuk's competing communities. They consider the constitutional mechanisms put in place to address the issue and the problems that have plagued their implementation. The book concludes with an assessment of the measures needed to resolve the crisis in Kirkuk, stressing that finding a compromise acceptable to all sides is vital to the future stability of Iraq.
