In 1926, Seattle Police Patrolman S. J. Jorgensen was a nationally-known pistol champ and Jiu-Jitsu instructor. In 1938, he published Thirty-Six Secret Knock-Out Blows without the use of Fists which is partially based on the Danzan Ryū style of Ju Jitsu founded by Seishiro Okazaki. The booklet is filled with images showing knock-outs, headlock breaks, and other self-defense techniques. Svend Jens "Jorgy" Jorgensen (1890-1974) was born in Denmark and came to Seattle in 1910. He joined the SPD in 1919, and began learning Jiu-Jitsu and Judo in 1921 when three fellow police officers, untrained in disarming techniques, were killed by a gunman. Mr. Jorgensen retired from the SPD in 1951, then worked a further eight years as a King County deputy sheriff. Although he held 127 sharpshooting medals, Mr. Jorgensen was proud of having arrested more than 200 criminals without ever firing a shot.

This mini-booklet is a reproduction of a promotional advertising brochure for S.J. Jorgensen's full book "American Police Jiu-Jitsu". Dating from the early 1930's it presents a few tastes of the full book via snippets, images and tons of glowing customer testimonials. Students of classic Ju-jitsu texts and early martial arts manuals will enjoy this unique little gem of historical interest. While the useful content presented is rather minimal, it is a great look at the style of techniques of the era; both defensive and mail-order promotions of selling martial arts knowledge. Truly harkens back to an older age, but one in which the Gangster-era of organized crime and hoodlums made average everyday citizens of big cities afraid of crime in a way not unlike the current times. Be sure to check out our other titles of vintage martial arts classics too, like: Police Jiu-jitsu, American Judo, and Judo Self-Taught. Supplement your martial arts skills with this expert guide to pressure point fighting. Western students of Asian martial arts have long been haunted by the aching suspicion that something is missing from the arts they love and practice wholeheartedly--something intangible, but something so essential that its absence leaves an unbridgeable void. For many, that missing ingredient is a true and thorough knowledge of the body's vital points: what they are, where they are, how to quickly find them under duress, how to use them, constructively or for destruction--and how to recognize them in the kata, hyung, or forms they thought they knew so well. In Pressure Point Fighting, martial arts expert Rick Clark offers a systematic introduction to this knowledge and to the tools needed to ferret out more of this information from forms and techniques already in place--knowledge and tools that are not dependent upon acceptance of the tenets of traditional Chinese medicine, or modern Western medicine, for that matter, but which are based solely on open-minded observation and willingness to try new, or old, approaches to martial arts training.

Martial Musings A Portrayal Of Martial Arts In The 20th Century written by Robert W. Smith and has been published by Via Media Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1999 with Sports & Recreation categories.

In every century there are unique individuals whose fate makes them standing symbols of unique merit and accomplishment. Robert W. Smith's Martial Musings stands out as the sole literary work which offers readers a special perspective of martial arts as they evolved during the 20th century. Smith personally escorts the reader on a martial arts tour. He starts with his own initial involvement in the arts, then launches outward, across the nation, over to Asia, and eventually home again. Some of the topics covered in the book include martial arts theory and practice, portrayals of leading Asian instructors, profiles of Westerners who studied the arts and brought them back to their respective countries and an historical record of the evolution of fighting arts in the West. Martial Musings represents the fourteenth book Smith has written on the subject and is a broader, somewhat historical, semi-autobiographical commentary on martial arts in the 20th century. But, what makes this book such a joy to devour is the literary relish Smith stir-fries in with the books basic ingredients. He astutely couples combatives with literary panache, and a ready wit. In short, Martial Musings introduces the reader to the individuals who shaped martial arts in the 20th century. The hardbound book has 398 pages and over 300 illustrations with a full-color cover and two-color text pages.
