China Development Research Foundation is one of the leading economic think tanks in China, where many of the details of China’s economic reform have been formulated. Its work and publications therefore provide great insights into what the Chinese themselves think about economic reform and how it should develop. This book presents a comprehensive survey of China’s reforms of the last thirty years. Its coverage includes macroeconomic policy; banking, finance, capital markets and tax; trade; labour markets; price reform; social security; and much else. Overall, it provides an invaluable assessment of the reforms from the perspective of experts within China, including an appraisal of how extensive the reforms have been, what consequences have turned out, and how far the reforms have been successful.

The rise of China as an economic superpower is one of the most dramatic developments in the history of capitalism. The transformation of the country from a closed planning economy to a dynamic capitalist society in the past 30 years can be broadly attributed to the changes in three broad inter-related areas: institutional reforms (especially at the level of governments), organizational innovations (especially the emergence of various private and hybrid management organizations), and foreign investment (especially the huge influx of FDI). This book is a collection of cutting edge research that reviews the path the country's institutions and organizations have taken and the role of foreign investment has played during the past three decades

Whither China written by Wu Jinglian and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-03-30 with Business & Economics categories.

How has China been able to maintain high-speed economic growth during the last thirty-plus years and successfully transform itself from a poor, backward, and developing country to become the world's second-largest economy? What are the challenges that China faces today and how will she deal with them in order to continue moving toward a truly prosperous and modern society? Standing at a crossroads today, what future direction should China choose: a free market economy or state capitalism? In a series of penetrating dialogues, Wu Jinglian, China's most celebrated and influential economist, and Ma Guochuan, chief commentator of Caijing Magazine, attempt to address the following question: "Where is China going?" This volume offers critical insights into the historical evolution of China's ongoing economic and social transformation. Strongly reflecting Professor Wu's views on the future prospects of the economic reforms, the book provides readers with a deep and lucid understanding of the social and economic issues now confronting China, analyzes their underlying causes, and examines the serious challenges to implementing further reforms. Professor Wu argues that the only way to escape the various social ills in China today is to restart the economic and political reforms, which began thirty years ago but have slowed down during the recent decade, and to move China in the direction of a market economy, the rule of law, and democracy.

The Logic Of Economic Reform In China written by Xiaojing Zhang and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-11-19 with Business & Economics categories.

This book provides a historical overview of Chinese economic reform over the past 30 years. From the genesis of the reform to the gradual improvement of the market system, and then to the re-start of the critical stage of the reform, this book includes not only research on the reform process, but also detailed descriptions of the key areas of reform since the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee. On this basis, the author develops six logics for Chinese economic reform. Firstly, reform is cyclical, moving between rapid advances and deadlock; this calls upon us to re-examine the common view of reform. Secondly, reform is systematic; it cannot succeed without supporting reforms in other fields. Thirdly, the relationship between reform, development and stability should be properly handled. This “trinity” is quite different from the perspective of western mainstream theory, which puts too much emphasis on efficiency. Fourthly, the success of Chinese reform was not achieved by chance. The reform practice is based on the theoretical logic, and also goes beyond the debate between progressive and radical modes. Fifthly, the Top-level Design should be combined with “crossing the river by moving from stone to stone,” i.e., the theoretical basis of reform should be combined with reform practice. Sixthly and lastly, the ongoing reform in China must be understood in the contexts of global competition and reform competition.

As big countries both in transition, China and Russia enjoy similarities in many aspects. Due to different paths of reform, however, results of the two countries vary considerably. Approaching this issue from the different paths, the author conducts an in-depth comparative analysis of the two countries, including reform in agriculture, pricing, ownership and the political system. Through this analysis we will have a clear understanding of gains and losses of China's reform, which is conducive to correctly assessing the situation we are facing and being aware of the direction of further reform.
