Do you have a loved one in jail or prison, a brother, a father, a son, a friend? This book is for them, something you can send them to give them hope, a future and transformation, to give them something to look forward to, to motivate them to improve themselves while doing their time. This book can put their feet on the right path. Men and Women who are serving time as prisoners and their families will appreciate the hope, growth and betterment of their loved ones. Those incarcerated in prison will feel part of a wider community of people striving to improve and reach their personal best as they use this transformational thinking writing journal. Imagine hope, healing, forgiveness, and self-improvement for your friends and family no matter their situation or environment. Many friends and family of people who have been incarcerated miss their loved ones and wish they could do more than visit once every now and then. Some wonder if their loved one will be released only to be jailed again, some children miss their imprisoned parents. This notebook is designed to be given to inmates to write their thoughts and feelings and to plan for a brighter future. Transformation happens when they write their plans, dreams or visions about the future, and prepare themselves to rejoin society no matter how much time they have spent while away. Those serving life imprisonments will also find it useful as it is an internal makeover. This is the notebook that provides the hope and inspiration inmates and their families need, containing over 110 pages of prompts to evoke personal questions and answers to guide them to plan for their best future, and to make better choices. Whether your loved one is behind bars because of addiction or anxiety related disorders, or they were wrongly imprisoned altogether, you can help them to stay in touch with themselves and others outside the confinement of the walls, by writing and journaling. Dissociative disorders together with Post Traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD) and other depressive and manic disorders can be avoided simply by staying connected and bonding to others in a nonjudgmental relationship. Using this writing journal can be a form of personal cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). IMPORTANT: Some key things about sending books to friends and family behind bars... If you order this book and send it to yourself, then send it to them yourself in a box, they will most likely be rejected for security reasons. It is highly recommended that you order and send directly from a publisher or seller like amazon, and that you do not send more than three books in one shipping. Ordering books for an inmate through an online retailer is easy, you just have to make sure that you select ship by USPS and that you ship it to the inmate's mailing address. Put the inmate's first name and last name followed by the inmate's ID number in the name line of the shipping address (John Doe, 12345). Next line put the facility name and then the address, so if I were sending an inmate items to Ulster Correctional Facility it would look like this: Frank Doe, 12345 The Name of Correctional Facility P.O. Halfway Home written by Reuben Jonathan Miller and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-02-02 with Social Science categories.

A "persuasive and essential" (Matthew Desmond) work that will forever change how we look at life after prison in America through Miller's "stunning, and deeply painful reckoning with our nation's carceral system" (Heather Ann Thompson). Each year, more than half a million Americans are released from prison and join a population of twenty million people who live with a felony record. Reuben Miller, a chaplain at the Cook County Jail in Chicago and now a sociologist studying mass incarceration, spent years alongside prisoners, ex-prisoners, their friends, and their families to understand the lifelong burden that even a single arrest can entail. What his work revealed is a simple, if overlooked truth: life after incarceration is its own form of prison. The idea that one can serve their debt and return to life as a full-fledge member of society is one of America's most nefarious myths. Recently released individuals are faced with jobs that are off-limits, apartments that cannot be occupied and votes that cannot be cast. As The Color of Law exposed about our understanding of housing segregation, Halfway Home shows that the American justice system was not created to rehabilitate. Parole is structured to keep classes of Americans impoverished, unstable, and disenfranchised long after they've paid their debt to society. Informed by Miller's experience as the son and brother of incarcerated men, captures the stories of the men, women, and communities fighting against a system that is designed for them to fail. It is a poignant and eye-opening call to arms that reveals how laws, rules, and regulations extract a tangible cost not only from those working to rebuild their lives, but also our democracy. As Miller searchingly explores, America must acknowledge and value the lives of its formerly imprisoned citizens. In the United States, Black men are almost six times more likely to be imprisoned than white men. This disproportionate impact can be traced back to slavery, Jim Crow laws, and the criminalization of Black people into the modern day. With growing awareness about unfair treatment in the justice system, more and more people are calling for change. Read more about the history and causes of mass incarceration and how activists are reforming and rethinking justice. Read WokeTM Books are created in partnership with Cicely Lewis, the Read Woke librarian. Inspired by a belief that knowledge is power, Read Woke Books seek to amplify the voices of people of the global majority (people who are of African, Arab, Asian, and Latin American descent and identify as not white), provide information about groups that have been disenfranchised, share perspectives of people who have been underrepresented or oppressed, challenge social norms and disrupt the status quo, and encourage readers to take action in their community.

Reshaping Beloved Community written by Marlon A. Smith and has been published by Rowman & Littlefield this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-10-15 with Political Science categories.

Reshaping Beloved Community: The Experiences of Black Male Felons and Their Impact on Black Radical Traditions offers a reflexive interrogation on the history of black male incarceration in the United States starting in the nineteenth century to both illustrate the complex ways black male felons have been discursively constructed and the various techniques utilized in the United States to erase the contributions of black male felons and their black radical projects. This erasure has left many black men without the benefit of fellowship and community. Therefore, Reshaping Beloved Community focuses on particular black male felons and their cultural production to highlight experiences of blackness that is often marginalized or ignored. In order to characterize these experiences and contributions of black male felons, Reshaping Beloved Community expands Victor Anderson’s definition of creative exchange by offering contemplative conversations of black male felons in history and the cultural works they produced. It draws on an interdisciplinary approach to reveal how some black male felons have used prison and the experience of incarceration to craft narratives and liberation movements. The philosophical approach within Reshaping Beloved Community deploys constructive and innovative concepts, particularly of the grotesque, to interpret how black male felons have resisted American political and cultural restraints on their humanity. Anderson’s concepts of creative exchange help create a framework that enables readers to see how the cultural production of black male felons reveals the unique experiences and worldview of black men trapped in various forms of penal captivity. These experiences speak to a deeper reality that is largely hidden because of the ways incarceration and penal captivity diminishes certain people in society. Yet a reengagement with those movements helps to link black male felons to the whole of black life and culture. In the end, Reshaping Beloved Community allows black radical scholars to gain deeper insight into the roles black male felons have played in critiquing American politics and culture. Moreover, it shows that the cultural productions of black male felons are just as important to understanding black life in American society as slave narratives, blues music, and the like.
