Michael Belardo paints a beautiful picture of scenic Italy in his new book Italy, Thru My Lens: A Photographer’s Guide to Italy. The author has traveled throughout Italy for the last 28 years, and as a photographer, each trip posed another challenge to capture this magical country and its picturesque regions. He says, “I put together a travel book that is photo based. The concept is from the south to the north, each photo represents a place that I hope you will want to visit. The photography for me is very important, and I wanted to give you a little more than a regular travel book. My photos are all places you can visit. Use the images as an inspiration to explore Italy. It’s a magical country and you can never go there too often.” “Michael is not just a great photographer. In his photos, the images, people, places, and scenes come to life, through his vivid depiction and careful attention to detail. You always feel a ‘sense of place,’ and want and need to be in that place. Through ‘his lens,’ Michael shares with you his experiences and emotions as a photographer and story teller.” – Bob Lipinski, founder, Bob Lipinski Consulting “His albums of Italy describe familiar places, with fresh stories to tell. Even the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Duomo of Florence, and il Colosseo in Rome look different from the postcards. Having an Italian background obviously makes a difference!” – Frank E. Johnson, author and importer

Drawing on published collections and also manuscripts from Mantuan archives, Commedia dell' arte and the Mediterranean locates commedia dell' arte as a performance form reflective of its cultural crucible in the Mediterranean. The study provides a broad perspective on commedia dell’ arte as an expression of the various cultural, gender and language communities in Italy during the early-modern period, and explores the ways in which the art form offers a platform for reflection on power and cultural exchange. While highlighting the prevalence of Mediterranean crossings in the scenarios of commedia dell' arte, this book examines the way in which actors embodied characters from across the wider Mediterranean region. The presence of Mediterranean minority groups such as Arabs, Armenians, Jews and Turks within commedia dell' arte is marked on stage and 'backstage' where they were collaborators in the creative process. In addition, gendered performances by the first female actors participated in 'staging' the Mediterranean by using the female body as a canvas for cartographical imaginings. By focusing attention on the various communities involved in the making of theatre, a central preoccupation of the book is to question the dynamics of 'exchange' as it materialized within a spectrum inclusive of both cultural collaboration but also of taxation and coercion.

A Smudge On My Lens written by Dave Spencer and has been published by Troubador Publishing Ltd this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2008 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

An adopted post war baby boomer from a Sussex council estate, Dave Spencer was born at a time when reminders of World War II still littered the 50s landscape. Nature was still bountiful, but the landed gentry were selling our heritage before conservation had teeth. His was the first television generation: weaned on the Flower Pot Men, he grew up in an increasingly commercial and libertarian society, which exploded into the colourful 60s. Ill at ease amongst former public school boys, a lurch to the left saw him taking several unsuitable apprenticeships, before a rude awakening led a confrontation with the law and a taste of life on the road. Dave took a ferry across the Mersey and a hippy hike from Cornwall to Manchester, then a final fling in Sussex led to an encounter with a longhaired milkman, in a story which mixes religion, drugs, politics and passion.

All over the world, people disappear from their families, communities and the state's bureaucratic gaze, as victims of oppressive regimes or while migrating along clandestine routes. This volume brings together scholars who engage ethnographically with such disappearances in various cultural, social and political contexts. It takes an anthropological perspective on questions about human life and death, absence and presence, rituals and mourning, liminality and structures, citizenship and personhood as well as agency and power. The chapters explore the political dimension of disappearances and address methodological, epistemological and ethical challenges of researching disappearances and the disappeared. The combination of disappearance through political violence, crime, voluntary disappearance and migration make this book a unique combination.

Autobiographical memory and photography have been inextricably linked since the first photographs appeared during the 19th century. These links have often been described from each other's discipline in ways that often have led to misunderstandings about the complex relationships between them. The Handbook of Research on the Relationship Between Autobiographical Memory and Photography covers many aspects of the multiple relationships between autobiographical memory and photography such as the idea that memory and photography can be seen as forms of mental time and the effect photography has on autobiographical memory. Covering key topics such as identity, trauma, and remembrance, this major reference work is ideal for industry professionals, sociologists, psychologists, artists, researchers, scholars, academicians, practitioners, educators, and students.

Excerpt from A Cruise on the Mediterranean: Or Glimpses of the Old World Through the Eyes of a Business Man of the New To My Friend, Greeting: At the suggestion and earnest request of some of my friends, I have consented to the publication, in book form, of the letters that I wrote while on our Oriental trip. Through the kindness of my friend, Eugene J. Hall, these letters were published in the "Grocers' Criterion" during last winter and spring. My motive for writing these letters was that my family and intimate friends might, in a measure, enjoy some of the pleasures and benefits of a trip of great historic interest. To my son, Phelps, I am indebted for some of the results of his camera; to my good wife, for her encouragement and approval; to Poole Brothers, printers, for superior work in illustrations; to Eugene J. Hall for looking after the details and business features of the publication. As to my time and the expense of publication, my reward will be ample, should my friends accept this token of friendship and find in its perusal the pleasure that I could wish for.
