Hatred is often considered the opposite of love, but in many ways is much more complicated. It also may be considered one of the dominant emotions of our time, as individuals, groups, and even nations express or enact hatred to varying degrees. What is hatred? Where does it come from and what does it reveal about the hater? And is hatred always a bad thing? Brogaard makes a deep dive into the moral psychology of one of our most complex, and vivid emotions. She explores how hatred arises between people and among groups. She also shows how hate, like anger, can sometimes be appropriate and fitting. Other other questions she addresses are, how does hate differ from anger, disgust, fear, and other related emotions? Is fear an essential part of hatred? How does hatred affect what happens inside the brain? How did hate evolve in human history? Is hatred ever morally justified? Can you hate and love at the same time? Can one hate oneself? How do implicit biases trigger hatred of groups? This accessible, timely, and novel look at an underexplored emotion will employ examples from current events as well as art and literature and popular culture.

Kosher Hate written by Rabbi Shmuley Boteach and has been published by Wicked Son this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-11-16 with Religion categories.
In this provocative and wide-ranging book, Shmuley Boteach makes the case for Kosher Hate, a seemingly paradoxical idea derived from Jewish theological tradition. In this startling and original defense of hatred as a moral response to evil, Boteach challenges the liberal notion that understanding and forgiveness are the appropriate response to evil deeds, arguing that this is merely a secularized version of the misguided Christian teaching—one that many Jews have embraced—that we must “turn the other cheek” and “love our enemies.” Instead, he maintains that it is Godly to hate evil and it is our duty to do everything we can to bring evildoers to justice. While forgiving petty slights is admirable, doing so with mass murder is an abomination. While loving our enemies is noble, this applies to those who steal our parking space or get our promotion at work. It does not apply to God’s enemies, those who engage in genocide and whose murderous ways destroy civilized living.

Heteroactivism written by Catherine Jean Nash and has been published by Zed Books Ltd. this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-10-29 with Social Science categories.
Around the world, LGBTQ+ activists have won an unprecedented series of political victories, from marriage equality to increased representation in government. But this success has sparked a backlash. While there has been much scrutiny of the role of the Christian right in opposing LGBTQ+ equality in the US, the backlash goes far beyond these traditional elements, and also extends beyond the US to countries including the UK, Ireland and Canada. In this book, Nash and Browne consider the rise of the new ‘heteroactivism’, showing how social media and new sources of funding have reinvigorated the opponents of LGBTQ+ rights. They also show how the rhetoric and tactics of this new generation of heteroactivists differ from that of their predecessors, exploiting notions of ‘parental rights’ and freedom of speech to assert heteronormative values in spaces ranging from schools to workplaces. They also reveal the increasingly transnational nature of anti- LGBTQ+ activism, with growing links between heteroactivists in the US, UK and beyond.

Hate Speech Law written by Alex Brown and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-03-05 with Philosophy categories.
Hate speech law can be found throughout the world. But it is also the subject of numerous principled arguments, both for and against. These principles invoke a host of morally relevant features (e.g., liberty, health, autonomy, security, non-subordination, the absence of oppression, human dignity, the discovery of truth, the acquisition of knowledge, self-realization, human excellence, civic dignity, cultural diversity and choice, recognition of cultural identity, intercultural dialogue, participation in democratic self-government, being subject only to legitimate rule) and practical considerations (e.g., efficacy, the least restrictive alternative, chilling effects). The book develops and then critically examines these various principled arguments. It also attempts to de-homogenize hate speech law into different clusters of laws/regulations/codes that constrain uses of hate speech, so as to facilitate a more nuanced examination of the principled arguments. Finally, it argues that it is morally fitting for judicial and legislative judgments about the overall warrant of hate speech law to reflect principled compromise. Principled compromise is characterized not merely by compromise over matters of principled concern but also by compromise which is itself governed by ideals of moral duty or civic virtue (e.g., reciprocity, equality, and mutual respect).
