The memoirs of Archpriest Valentin Biryukov (1922-). Fr. Valentin was born in the Altai region of western Siberia. He has lived through almost the entire history of the Soviet Union-- exiled with his parents in Siberia, wounded while fighting the Nazi blockade of Leningrad in World War II, and finally becoming a priest. During his long life, Fr. Valentin has had innumerable experiences of God's mercy and has met a great many others who have experienced God in profound and at times miraculous ways. He has recorded these experiences in this book in order to strengthen people's faith, and in order to derive teachings on how to live as true Christians: with prayer, love for others, hope in God, humility, repentence, and forgiveness.--Publisher.

Elizabeth Angier was happy to be at the end of the school year. She thought her summer on the family farm would be full of work and play with her best friend, Rachel, and her other best friend, her dog, Maizey. However, Elizabeth didn't anticipate the Harmony Farms Corporation moving to her town. Her world starts to crumble as her best friend moves away and her parents whisper of farmers selling their land and the effects this factory farm operation could have on them. When she thinks things can't get much worse, she meets the most unusual creature, Gaia, the living entity of the Earth. Strange things begin to happen to her, around her, and through her! Elizabeth discovers that with these new powers comes responsibility. A dire mistake makes Elizabeth wonder if meeting Gaia has been a blessing or a curse. Will Elizabeth have the strength to fight a large corporation? Or will her upstate New York home be spoiled by profit driven pork production that fouls the air, land, and water?

I often wonder how Exodus 3:14 and Matthew 6:10 have become so misunderstood. Everyone talks about how much better Heaven is going to be, and how their pains and sorrows will be no more once they die. Yet, we live in Heaven or Hell every day on Earth by our thoughts and by our daily choices. Heaven and Hell are states of consciousness. We are meant to live in Heaven on Earth! Jesus and other great teachers demonstrated this by setting the example and left their wisdom in written books. We have much to learn from every flower, every tree, every season, and every animal. They know exactly what to do without being told, and God/Universe sends them everything they need to survive. When we are aligned with Source, we, too, become magnets attracting everything we need. This means that we don't have to make things happen on our own understanding. Everything flows easily and naturally to the soul when aligned. Abundance, ideal relationships, all of your hearts desires are achieved without effort. And this was my hardest, yet most enriching lesson to learn-to surrender with grace to the forces that hold me, and will continue to hold me in ways I've never dreamt possible!!! There were many times I have questioned myself, and wondered, What in the world am I doing? I felt like I was Noah building the Ark. What I know now is that I am an Ark builder! There was something inside of me telling me that if I kept strong in my faith, trusted and listened to that little nudging voice, then I would live a life beyond my wildest dreams. I knew deep down that this was bigger than me; it is my soul calling. I know I am being directed by a force far greater than myself, and I cannot erase these pictures that I hold in my imagination. I feel with divine love and happiness in my heart what this book will bring to millions of people. This feeling is imprinted upon my subconscious mind, and my subconscious mind creates exactly what I have come to believe and feel. I give thanks every day that this book will bring Heaven On Earth to the world. I have no idea how, but I surrender and trust in a power far greater than myself. I feel deep feelings of gratitude in advance for the magical outcome. The Secret teaches us that, "everything that has ever been invented or created throughout the history of humankind began with one thought. From one thought, a way was made, and it manifested from the invisible into the visible." When Henry Ford was bringing his vision of the motor vehicle into our world, people around him ridiculed him, and thought he had gone mad to pursue such a "wild" vision. He, however, knew much more than the people who ridiculed him. He knew The Secret, and he knew the law of the Universe. Ford has also been quoted saying, "Whether you think you can or think you can't, either way you are right." I choose to think that I can.

Living on a damaged planet challenges who we are and where we live. This timely anthology calls on twenty eminent humanists and scientists to revitalize curiosity, observation, and transdisciplinary conversation about life on earth. As human-induced environmental change threatens multispecies livability, Arts of Living on a Damaged Planet puts forward a bold proposal: entangled histories, situated narratives, and thick descriptions offer urgent “arts of living.” Included are essays by scholars in anthropology, ecology, science studies, art, literature, and bioinformatics who posit critical and creative tools for collaborative survival in a more-than-human Anthropocene. The essays are organized around two key figures that also serve as the publication’s two openings: Ghosts, or landscapes haunted by the violences of modernity; and Monsters, or interspecies and intraspecies sociality. Ghosts and Monsters are tentacular, windy, and arboreal arts that invite readers to encounter ants, lichen, rocks, electrons, flying foxes, salmon, chestnut trees, mud volcanoes, border zones, graves, radioactive waste—in short, the wonders and terrors of an unintended epoch. Living Earth Community: Multiple Ways of Being and Knowing is a celebration of the diversity of ways in which humans can relate to the world around them, and an invitation to its readers to partake in planetary coexistence. Innovative, informative, and highly accessible, this interdisciplinary anthology of essays brings together scholars, writers and educators across the sciences and humanities, in a collaborative effort to illuminate the different ways of being in the world and the different kinds of knowledge they entail – from the ecological knowledge of Indigenous communities, to the scientific knowledge of a biologist and the embodied knowledge communicated through storytelling. This anthology examines the interplay between Nature and Culture in the setting of our current age of ecological crisis, stressing the importance of addressing these ecological crises occurring around the planet through multiple perspectives. These perspectives are exemplified through diverse case studies – from the political and ethical implications of thinking with forests, to the capacity of storytelling to motivate action, to the worldview of the Indigenous Okanagan community in British Columbia. Living Earth Community: Multiple Ways of Being and Knowing synthesizes insights from across a range of academic fields, and highlights the potential for synergy between disciplinary approaches and inquiries. This anthology is essential reading not only for researchers and students, but for anyone interested in the ways in which humans interact with the community of life on Earth, especially during this current period of environmental emergency.
