This book traces changing attitudes to tobacco largely through the experiences of the author. He grew up raising tobacco and, influenced by advertising, began smoking as a youth. He was conducting research in a chemical laboratory involving carcinogenic substances when the health effects of tobacco began to surface. While he was working with public interest organizations, environmental tobacco smoke began to be recognized as an indoor pollutant. Ethical issues forced him, like many others, to stop smoking, and he eventually became quite involved in pastoral work with sick smokers. The final chapter surveys the lessons that can be learned from one person's tobacco days.

Over the past twenty years I have spent considerable time traveling in Italy. It has been an extraordinary experience filled with great times with many friends. Alan's Italy, My Personal Journey is the story of my passion for Italy, its culture, history, and people. Each of the first five chapters is named after some of the people who have had the greatest impact on my love for this wonderful country, and the final chapter, named for me, culminates in the most amazing of my twenty adventures. This story focusses on how each of these people have had such an enormous impact on my life. I talk about all of my trips with special emphasis on those events which have shaped my thinking, and driven me to try to find greater meaning in my journeys. After many attempts to put in writing how my passion for Italy has had such a profound effect on my life, (but without much success), the weekly television show I produce and perform, Alan's Italy, on Woodstock Public Access Television, has given me a special perspective that I lacked. Being given the chance to analyze my life of travel throughout the country focussing on the many topics I have selected to broadcast has given me the unique direction I have always sought. Join in this journey to some of the most beautiful places on earth, big cities such as Florence, Venice and Rome, and smaller towns such as Orvieto, Civita di Bagnoregio, and Loro Ciufenna among many others. Meet some of my friends and family, and share some of my most memorable experiences in this amazing land. Alan's Italy, My Personal Journey is the fulfillment of the dream that I have pursued during my life to put into words my extraordinary passion for my second home, Italy.

Quitting Smoking Journey written by Jory Ames and has been published by CreateSpace this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-06-04 with categories.

Jory Ames, Ph.D.'s book is for smokers to turn to for motivation, education, and a personal and successful quit journey. I am a nonsmoker. I knew this by Day #16, but I kept this journal through Day #47 to continue my self-discovery, to research everything I could about why I (and others) smoked and why it is so hard to quit, and yet also so easy to quit once the mindset is in place. I wanted to have a book I - and others - could draw on for motivation and education. My mission: to use the same research skills that got me a Ph.D. and a successful 30-year career as a technical writer to understand and take control of nicotine addiction. I know that, like any addictive substance, I must avoid cigarettes for the rest of my life. I understand the dangers of having "just one" and that I can never go there. I have been brainwashed since birth by advertising, movies, TV, songs, and people all around me - including my own mother - to be a smoker. I saw the beautiful liberated women in cigarette ads in my mother's stack of magazines, and I wanted to grow up to be just like them. And different ads and movie icons appealed to men, drawing them in to habit that costs them over $50,000 in 30 years, if they live that long. I have three tumors in my poor 55-year-old lungs, which I have tortured now with cigarettes for 28 years. That knowledge sat hard with me, but it still took me over 6 months to quit. But something changed in me as I wrote this journal. And something will change in you, as you read it. Together, we will want to be - and will be - forever free of tobacco.

Brave, bighearted... An absolutely absorbing book of challenging power, a story of almost unbearable tensions. A modern life played out against the chaos of "me" and the divine order of "we." Marie Dadisman The observations made in this work regarding the social impact of our current social strategies are poignant observations that beckon the reader to evaluate whether, or not, they wish to embrace and support our current paradigms for social order.
