Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2000 im Fachbereich Theologie - Vergleichende Religionswissenschaft, Note: 1,75, Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg (Institut für Religionswissenschaft), Veranstaltung: PS: Einführung in die Religionswissenschaft, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Dieser Arbeit analysiert das Verhältnis des frühen Taoismus zu Tod, Wandlung und Unsterblichkeit. Der zeitliche Schwerpunkt liegt hierbei in der Blütezeit des philosophischen Taoismus (5.-3. Jahrhundert v. Chr.), mit den Hauptvertretern Lao-Tzu, Chuang-Tzu und Lieh-Tzu. Der Zeitraum davor, über den nur wenig Daten bekannt sind, wird nur der Vollständigkeit halber kurz angeschnitten (Yin/Yang, I-Ching). Vor allem in Hinblick auf die Unsterblichkeitsbemühungen des Taoismus untersuche ich die Zeit nach den großen Philosophen. Das Thema Tod ist so eng mit dem Wandel verwoben, dass sich das eine ohne das andere gar nicht befriedigend behandeln lässt. Die Verbindung von Tod und Unsterblichkeit ist naheliegend, hat im Taoismus jedoch einen besonderen Stellenwert. Die verschiedenen Themenbereiche überschneiden sich immer wieder, so dass die Zuordnung (von z. B. Wiederkehr: Wandel oder Tod?) manchmal schwierig war. Grundsätzlich muss zwischen philosophischem Taoismus, der den Schwerpunkt dieser Arbeit bildet, und dem Volksglauben unterschieden werden. Der Taoismus als Volksreligion hat sich im Laufe der Jahre mit konfuzianischen und buddhistischen Einflüssen vermischt, weshalb er manchmal erheblich von den philosophischen Grundlagen abweicht. Natürlich kann ein so wichtiges und weites Thema in einer so kurzen Arbeit nicht erschöpfend behandelt werden. Mein Hauptanliegen ist einen allgemeinen Überblick zu dieser Thematik zu vermitteln mit den genannten Schwerpunkten im Zentrum. Ich möchte an dieser Stelle eine kurze Definition des Begriffes Tao geben, allerdings ist dieser so komplex, dass es schwer ist ihn in Worten zu fassen.. Only by inhabiting Dao (the Way of Nature) and dwelling in its unity can humankind achieve true happiness and freedom, in both life and death. This is Daoist philosophy’s central tenet, espoused by the person—or group of people—known as Zhuangzi (369?-286? B.C.E.) in a text by the same name. To be free, individuals must discard rigid distinctions between good and bad, right and wrong, and follow a course of action not motivated by gain or striving. Hannah Arendt was born in Germany in 1906 and lived in America from 1941 until her death in 1975. Thus her life spanned the tumultuous years of the twentieth century, as did her thought. She did not consider herself a philosopher, though she studied and maintained close relationships with two great philosophers—Karl Jaspers and Martin Heidegger—throughout their lives. She was a thinker, in search not of metaphysical truth but of the meaning of appearances and events. She was a questioner rather than an answerer, and she wrote what she thought, principally to encourage others to think for themselves. Fearless of the consequences of thinking, Arendt found courage woven in each and every strand of human freedom. Protagoras of Abdera, Socrates’ older contemporary, is regarded as one of the most prominent representatives of the so-called sophistic movement. Instead of simply accepting the biased reports given by Plato and Aristotle about this sophist, the contributors to this volume review the complicated doxographical situation and make a case for Protagoras as a philosopher in his own right. Two major themes of this volume are Protagoras’ relativism and his case for a moral and political ideal, both of which are contrasted with the metaphysical idealism of his future opponents in the Academy and the mundane conventionalism typically associated with the sophists.
