The deadliest flu season in a hundred years is about to turn a whole lot deadlier. When an accident at a famous medical research facility lets a mutated avian flu strain out, a nightmare scenario unfolds. Before authorities can react, millions are infected—and that’s just the beginning. The mortality rate exceeds 80%. Leaders and elected officials soon learn the man-manipulated virus respects neither rank nor stature. The resulting chain reaction leads to a collapse of modern society—even in Colorado, where no cases of the killer strain have yet appeared. Clint Stonebreaker, a happily-married software engineer living in Denver, doesn’t like watching the news. He especially doesn’t let Jake, his wacky doomsday-prepping brother, watch it when he visits. But when chaos goes viral through the entire country, Clint and his wife Jenny are forced to acknowledge reality. They find themselves hitting the road with their gun-enthusiast neighbor to escape the deteriorating city. Their goal? Reaching Clint’s hunting cabin in Southeastern Colorado and trying to make a homestead of it. They don’t get far before running into a gauntlet of obstacles. Colorado seems to have become a giant sociological experiment, with dire consequences for making the wrong decisions. The spirit of American resolve is pitted against the ugly realty of criminal opportunism in every direction they turn. Ironically, Clint isn’t sure which is worse: being forced to survive in the midst of civil unrest, or knowing he’ll have to admit to Jake that he was right. Assuming he can find him...

Welcome to Tails from the Woods! This compilation of short stories is about one man's lifetime of experiences hunting and camping alone or with family and friends. These stories contain memories ranging from early childhood to late adulthood that land the author in many different predicaments from which lessons are learned through successes and failures. These lessons, combined with scriptures from the Bible, helped the author to better understand God's Word and His will for our lives. Some of these stories might help novice hunters increase their hunting skills. But most focus on the mistakes that come from inexperience or carelessness that can lead to hilarious and unwanted outcomes. Maybe you're a seasoned hunter. Maybe you are just starting your hunting career. Or maybe you just like to spend time in God's glorious creation. Hopefully, Rick Gordon's stories, combined with thought-provoking scripture, will bring a smile to your face and help you avoid pitfalls in the woods or in your walk with Christ and all His creation!

All of these selections in this volume were comosed between 1896 and 1905. Mark Twain wrote them after the disasters of the early and middle nineties that had included the decline into bankruptcy of his publishing business, the failure of the typsetting machine in which he invested heavily, and the death of his daughter Susy. Their principal fable is that of a man who has been long favored by luck while pursuing a dream of success that has seemed about to turn into reality. Sudden reverses occur and he experiences a nightmarish time of failure. He clutches at what may be a saving thought: perhaps he is indeed living in a nightmare from which he will awaken to his former felicity. But there is also the possibility that what seems a dream of disaster may be the actuality of his life. The question is the one asked by the titles that he gave to two of his manuscripts: "Which Was the Dream?" and "Which Was It?" He posed a similar question in 1893: "I dreamed I was born, and grew up, and was a pilot on the Mississippi, and a miner and journalist...and had a wife and children...and this dream goes on and on and on, and sometimes seems so real that I almost believe it is real. I wonder if it is?" Behind this naïve query was his strong interest in conscious and unconscious levels of mental experience, which were then being explored by the new psychology.

Successful Turkey Hunting written by John Higley and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-05-06 with Sports & Recreation categories.

Successful Turkey Hunting is based on five years of columns written for the publications of the National Wild Turkey Federation, with a few stories from other publications tossed in the mix. Authors John Higley and J.J. Reich have expanded and updated the articles to fit the format of this book. Included are such subjects as what drives turkey behavior, the importance of calling, how anyone can learn to call, and the part woodsmanship plays. Also included are thoughts on basic equipment and how to deal with a wide range of scenarios encountered while hunting wild turkeys. Featured in many of the columns are such recognized professional turkey hunters as Paul Butski, Ray Eye, Matt Morrett, Alex Rutledge, Eddie Salter, Preston Pittman, Chris Parrish and Mossy Oak’s Ronnie “Cuz” Strictland. In articles, seminars, and this book, Higley and Reich have tried to really get into what turkey hunting is all about. It is their hope that these chapters will lead hunters to a better understanding of all phases of turkey hunting, and ultimately result in more successful hunts in spring and fall. Skyhorse Publishing is proud to publish a broad range of books for hunters and firearms enthusiasts. We publish books about shotguns, rifles, handguns, target shooting, gun collecting, self-defense, archery, ammunition, knives, gunsmithing, gun repair, and wilderness survival. We publish books on deer hunting, big game hunting, small game hunting, wing shooting, turkey hunting, deer stands, duck blinds, bowhunting, wing shooting, hunting dogs, and more. While not every title we publish becomes a New York Times bestseller or a national bestseller, we are committed to publishing books on subjects that are sometimes overlooked by other publishers and to authors whose work might not otherwise find a home.
