This volume presents fifteen musicological perspectives on the creativity of women composers and the question of 'femininity' in Southeastern-European musical cultures from 1918 on. One of the objectives of the elementary music program is to foster the musical understanding of each individual chid by helping him to organize the musical experiences comprising the music curriculum which he undergoes. In view of this objective the present investigator has long questioned the paradoxical dearth of research studies designed by music educators to determine how a child actually organizes his musical experiences. Some research studies concerning the musical abilities of children have been conducted by psychologists, but these are rarely cited in the elementary music literature as a basis for existing practices in elementary music education. About a year ago the investigator was captivated by the research of Jean Piaget, a Swiss psychologist, in the areas of concept formation and the development of thought processes in children. As a result of this captivation plans for the present study slowly began to crystallize. The purpose of this study is to devise musical tasks embodying the Piagetian principle of conservation of meter, tone, and rhythm and to determine the responses of eight five-and eight eight-year-old children to these tasks.

The two volumes of The Oxford Handbook of Mobile Music Studies consolidate an area of scholarly inquiry that addresses how mechanical, electrical, and digital technologies and their corresponding economies of scale have rendered music and sound increasingly mobile-portable, fungible, and ubiquitous. At once a marketing term, a common mode of everyday-life performance, and an instigator of experimental aesthetics, "mobile music" opens up a space for studying the momentous transformations in the production, distribution, consumption, and experience of music and sound that took place between the late nineteenth and the early twenty-first centuries. Taken together, the two volumes cover a large swath of the world-the US, the UK, Japan, Brazil, Germany, Turkey, Mexico, France, China, Jamaica, Iraq, the Philippines, India, Sweden-and a similarly broad array of the musical and nonmusical sounds suffusing the soundscapes of mobility. Volume 2 investigates the ramifications of mobile music technologies on musical/sonic performance and aesthetics. Two core arguments are that "mobility" is not the same thing as actual "movement" and that artistic production cannot be absolutely sundered from the performances of quotidian life.
