This is a very interesting and original country, a vacation in which will leave many unforgettable memories. The capital of the country, the city of Montevideo, is famous primarily for its architectural landmarks. This is a place where travelers are able to see buildings that belong to the colonial epoch, as well as beautiful old houses that border with modern buildings, office centers and banks. There are several parks and large squares in the city, where on any time of the day one can see unhurriedly walking local people and guests of the city. The Independence Square is considered the largest square in Montevideo. The main place of interest in the city, Artigas Mausoleum, is also located there. There is one more sight right in front of the historical landmark. This is Palacio Salvo, the highest building in South America. Travelers are also recommended to visit Plaza Constitución square as near it they will find such a famous landmark as Iglesia Matriz de El Salvador church that was built in the eighteenth century. There are also many museums in Montevideo, the most famous being Museo del Gaucho y de la Moneda and the National Museum of History. Fans of shopping are recommended to make a walk to Mercado del Puerto district. This old port district is the location of numerous trading centres and markets.

Argentina is the principal source of tourism in Uruguay. This paper analyzes the effects in the long run of tourism from Argentina on the economic growth of Uruguay. Using quarterly data from 1987.I to 2006. IV, the study uses co-integration analysis and shows the existence of one cointegrated vector among Uruguayan real per capita GDP, Argentinean tourism expenditure, and real exchange rate between Uruguay and Argentina, and tests that the causality relationship positively goes in one way from Argentinean tourism expenditure to real per capita GDP of Uruguay.

This paper studies the determinants of repeat visiting in Uruguay, where loyal visitors are a relevant part of the total. From a statistical point of view the number of times a visitor has been to a place constitutes count data. In this regard available information on Uruguay present relevant limitations. Count data is in fact reported only for those who visited the country up to five times, whereas records about the most frequent visitors are collapsed into one residual category. This implies that the classic models for count data such as Poisson or negative binomial cannot be put into consideration. The paper suggest instead the use of a quantile count data regression, that is a model based on measures of location rather than mean values. A set of explanatory variables related to socioeconomic characteristics, features of the journey and composition of the travel party are considered.

This short paper analyses the effects in the long-run of tourism on the economic growth of Uruguay. Finally, we compare our study with similar papers also investigating the TLGH.
