A LIBRARY JOURNAL 2008 BEST BUSINESS BOOK OF THE YEAR! Globalization. The Flat World. Outsourcing. Free Trade. Each of these phrases is a flashpoint in one of the most heated debates of our lifetime: Is globalization a force for good, or is it a policy that is sure to destroy the economic foundation of the United States and Europe while exporting our wealth and prosperity overseas? In The War for Wealth, leading intellectual and agenda-setting journalist Gabor Steingart examines how globalization has affected the state of the world's economy and returns with a bleak outlook for the West: our prosperity and wealth are disappearing faster than ever, and with it our political power and our long-held democratic ideals. But all is not lost; we can still stem the flow of capital and jobs and once again restore the West to its respected position of global leader in economics and politics. In this eye-opening and dramatic account, Steingart lays out the three potential scenarios the world faces - a “shock scenario” in which there is a global economic crash, an “Asia-over-all scenario” where the rising economies of Asia completely overtake the West, or the “American renaissance scenario” in which U.S. politicians unite with each other and with Europe, forming a pragmatic third way to bring the West back from the brink of destruction. Compelling, controversial, and thought-provoking, The War for Wealth alerts readers to the crucial state of the Western economy--and shows how leaders can return the West to its position of power in the global arena.

The Unspoken Truth About Globalization written by Peter Temu and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Business & Economics categories.

Globalization is a subject we have heard and read so much about. Here is the first of a series of monographs designed to unmask the truth behind globalization. Eventually, The UNSPOKEN TRUTH series of booklets will cover a wide array of topics which, like globalization, have far-reaching policy implications. You will find within these pages solid information and stimulating ideas on the whole subject of globalization. Starting with a meaningful normative idea of "globalizing development", the author shows the close interrelationship between globalization and liberalization, how the law of "intellectual property" is inimical to "good" globalization, and how globalization, left unchecked, can undermine the sovereignty of national governments. The book challenges the multilateral organizations such as the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, and the World Trade Organization to stop advocating globalization policies that benefit the developed countries at the expense of the developing countries. In particular, it calls on the United States as the monolithic superpower that is uniquely placed to assume world leadership, to rise above selfish national interests, and confront the challenge of spearheading global equity. The book suggests, however, that the United Nations, for all its shortcomings, is still the body best placed to engineer balanced globalization on a world scale, provided it is reformed in a way that enhances significantly both its power and its international prestige.

An estensive chapter on economic development critically analyzes neoliberal strategies in countries from Mexico to Korea, and features a debate on the significance of rich nations' agricultural subsidies. The eighth edition also includes a new chapter on the political economy of war and imperialism, with articles on the consequences of the U.S. military buildup for corporations, the U.S. working class, and the global environment. A final chapter, also new, examines alternatives to neoliberalism, from social democracy in Sweden, to democratic decentralization in Kerala, to factory seizures by workers in Argentina." taken from back cover

A Critical Analysis Of The Following Statement Globalisation Is Not Important As In Reality Most International Firms Operate On Regional Or Local Basis written by Marlene Dietenbacher-Kuhn and has been published by GRIN Verlag this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-04-14 with Business & Economics categories.

Essay from the year 2010 in the subject Economics - International Economic Relations, La Trobe University Melbourne, language: English, abstract: Executive Summary Considering the given statement, we have to consider, if it is true, that globalization is not important, then why should we look at globalization? The statement includes truth since actually most of them seem to operate in a region, but is this really the sole answer? First of all, one statement has to be made to clarify the issue: globalization is important as it is a trend that is characterized by denationalization in which national boundaries are becoming less relevant. But on the other hand there is not such a thing as a global strategy that never has to be adapted to several or even all of the markets MNCs operate in. That is why in this essay the argument is put forward, that globalization is not vitally important to international firms. The essay concludes that globalization for international firms is important, but that there is still the urgent need to redefine their global strategy, as they have to differ from country to country and adapt to local needs and practices.
