First published in 2005, An Architecture of invitation: Colin St John Wilson is a distinctive study of the life and architectural career of one of the most significant makers, theorists and teachers of architecture to have emerged in England in the second half of the twentieth century. Exceptionally in an architectural study, this book interweaves biography, critical analysis of the projects, and theory, in its aims of explicating the richness of Wilson’s body of work, thought and teaching. Drawing on the specialisms of its authors, it also examines the creative and psychological impulses that have informed the making of the work – an oeuvre whose experiential depth is recognised by both users and critics.

The Star Creek Papers written by Horace Mann Bond and has been published by University of Georgia Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-03-15 with Social Science categories.

The Star Creek Papers is the never-before-published account of the complex realities of race relations in the rural South in the 1930s. When Horace and Julia Bond moved to Louisiana in 1934, they entered a world where the legacy of slavery was miscegenation, lingering paternalism, and deadly racism. The Bonds were a young, well-educated and idealistic African American couple working for the Rosenwald Fund, a trust established by a northern philanthropist to build schools in rural areas. They were part of the "Explorer Project" sent to investigate the progress of the school in the Star Creek district of Washington Parish. Their report, which decried the teachers' lack of experience, the poor quality of the coursework, and the students' chronic absenteeism, was based on their private journal, "The Star Creek Diary," a shrewdly observed, sharply etched, and affectionate portrait of a rural black community. Horace Bond was moved to write a second document, "Forty Acres and a Mule," a history of a black farming family, after Jerome Wilson was lynched in 1935. The Wilsons were thrifty landowners whom Bond knew and respected; he intended to turn their story into a book, but the chronicle remained unfinished at his death. These important primary documents were rediscovered by civil rights scholar Adam Fairclough, who edited them with Julia Bond's support.

Abandon all fossil fuels or face an unstoppable plague... In the wake of the Baghdad disaster, President Amy Coffman is battling to get her administration back on track when eco-terrorists threaten to unleash a gruesome contagion, one that transforms ordinary people into blood-thirsty savages. Unless the world dials the clock back a hundred years. Either way, billions will die. As the US military-industrial complex mobilises to neutralise the terrorists, Coffman and her allies discover a new and unexpected opportunity - weaponise the virus and seize ultimate power. But first, the dominoes have to fall. The targets are global cities with teeming populations, and Coffman intends to watch them all burn as the horrifying pandemic spreads across the planet. Unless she can be stopped. But doing so might set the world on a far darker and dangerous path than anyone can imagine. And humanity is running out of time.
