Training Circular TC 21-305-8 Training Program For Medium Vehicles This training circular (TC) provides a training program for the wheeled vehicle operator of medium vehicles (straight vehicles, 5 ton and greater), in accordance with Army Regulation (AR) 600-55. It can be used to train drivers of tactical or commercially- designed vehicles. Instructions in this TC are written in general terms because they include driver tasks for several vehicles. Therefore, use the appropriate vehicle operator's manual in conjunction with this TC. While developing this TC, each driver candidate was assumed to have a state driver's license and some past driving experience. Less experienced soldiers will need additional subjects and time to train to the standard. This TC provides standardized training and testing in the operation, maintenance, and safety of medium wheeled vehicles. It stresses hands-on training with minimal classroom instruction. It does not include any theater-unique requirements. To provide effective training, each instructor should ensure his operators are trained and tested to the standards in this TC. Any deviation from successfully completing these basic standards will only decrease the soldiers' overall driving effectiveness. This training program offers commanders some alternatives. Chapter 7 contains training and testing for drivers transporting personnel in trucks; Chapter 8, for drivers transporting personnel in buses. For safety reasons, all drivers should be tested on the End Of Course Comprehensive Test (EOCCT) (Chapter 6) before proceeding to Chapters 7 or 8. Also, Chapter 9 includes additional subjects that can be added at the commander's discretion based on the unit's mission. Graduates (licensed drivers) of this training program should be supervised until they have gained the experience to operate safely. They should not be placed in situations that may be above their skill level. Periodically, the supervisor should ride with each driver to observe safe operating procedures and to determine the need for more training.

To safeguard human resources and equipment, commanders must ensure that an individual is licensed to operate a 2 1/2-ton or larger truck before receiving tractor/semitrailer training. This TC provides standardized training and testing to operators in the operation, maintenance, and safety of the tractor semitrailer combination. It stresses hands-on training with minimal classroom instruction. It does not include any theater unique requirements. To effectively execute this TC, each instructor should ensure his tractor operators are trained and tested to the standards contained in this TC. This TC was specifically designed for the tractor semitrailer combination to include PMCS and vehicle operations. Any deviation from the successful completion of these basic standards will only lessen the soldiers' overall driving effectiveness. This training program offers some alternatives for the commander. Chapter 7 includes additional subjects to allow the flexibility to add subjects based on the mission of the unit. Graduates (licensed drivers) of this training program should be supervised until they have gained the experience to operate safely. They should not be placed in situations that may be above their skill level. Periodically, the supervisor should ride with each driver to observe safe operating procedures and to determine the need for additional training.

Training Circular TC 55-60-17 Training Program For The 50,000-Pound Rough-Terrain Container Handler This TC provides a training program for the 50,000-pound Rough-Terrain Container Handler according to AR 600-55. It provides standardized training and testing in the operation, maintenance, and safety of this vehicle. It stresses hands-on training with very little classroom instruction and does not include any theater-unique requirements. Also during the development of this TC, it was assumed that each driver candidate would have a state driver's license, have completed accident avoidance training according to TC 21-305, and possess an OF 346 (stamped as a learner's permit). The lesson content for this training program is arranged sequentially and separated into four chapters (Chapters 4, 5, 6, and 7). Chapter 4 contains training for the overall use of the 50,000-pound RTCH. Chapter 5 and Chapter 6 contain training for the 50,000-pound RTCH (Chapter 5 [with tophandler] and Chapter 6 [with containers]). Chapter 7 contains training for HAZCOM safety. Testing is contained in Chapter 8. Appendix A contains the paper transparencies cited throughout the lesson outlines and Appendix B contains the Force Protection Annex. All training should be annotated on DA Form 348 (or ULLS-generated DA Form 348-E) according to AR 600-55. To provide effective training, each instructor should ensure his operators are trained and tested to the standards in this TC. Any deviation from the successful completion of these basic standards will only lessen the soldiers overall driving effectiveness.
