Aimed at recently qualified psychiatrists or those looking to qualify soon, How to Succeed in Psychiatry is not a source of clinical information but a survival guide to help you through the first years practising psychiatry. This book covers the topics you won't find in standard textbooks. It deals with daily problems and practical solutions for young psychiatrists. Psychiatric training is less team based than other specialties, so there is less opportunity for learning from colleagues than one would expect: this book helps to fill that gap. The book opens with an overview of psychiatry training, describing the similarities and differences among various countries. Subsequent chapters address the opportunities for research and how to publish the results. Psychotherapy and community psychiatry each merit their own chapter on training. Next, the book guides you through the transition phase into a job, discussing opportunities in both the public and private sectors and considering how to choose the best career for you. It reviews important general considerations, such as ethics, professionalism, leadership and management, how to avoid stress and burn out, and how to liaise with other specialties. The book closes with an account of the role of psychiatry associations and continuing professional development. Written by early career psychiatrists from around the world, this book provides invaluable first-hand experience to all those wishing to embark on a career in this exciting discipline. Practical tips for young psychiatrists starting their careers on the wards or in private practice Advice on the transition phase at the end of training, career choice and job opportunities

This study guide aims to make European trainees in forensic psychiatry and psychology and young forensic psychiatrists and psychologists aware of the differences and commonalities in forensic psychiatry and psychology in different countries within Europe and to enable them to learn from the approaches adopted in each country. The guide is divided into five main sections that address legal frameworks, service provision and frameworks, mandatory skills, teaching and training in forensic psychiatry and psychology, and capita selecta. In addition, recommendations are made with respect to the practice of teaching and training across European countries. It is anticipated that the guide will provide an excellent means of improving specific skills and that, by learning about the offender/patient pathways in the different jurisdictions of Europe, the reader will gain a deeper understanding of the principles that govern methods and practices in their own work with mentally disordered offenders.

The intention of this book is to provide an overview of child and adolescent psychiatry in Europe, focusing on the historical development, current situation, and future perspectives of the specialty. Child and adolescent psychiatry is now acknowledged as a medical specialty or subspecialty in almost all European countries. Also, the number of child psychia trists has increased dramatically over the last decade. However, there are still enormous differences from country to country, not only with regard to the num ber of specialists, but also with regard to the extent and nature of services provided and their diagnostic and therapeutic orientation. Furthermore, important differ ences exist in the training curricula for child and adolescent psychiatry within medicine and other professional fields, both inside and outside the universities, and in the image and importance of this discipline to the public. This diversity is also reflected in the reports on the historical development, current situation and future perspectives of child and adolescent psychiatry in 31 European countries, all following the same structure in order to facilitate compa rability. This structure comprises (1) the historical development and the current situation, (2) classification systems and diagnostic and therapeutic methods, (3) structure and organization of services, (4) cooperation with other medical and non-medical disciplines, (5) training and continuing medical education, (6) research, and (7) future perspectives.

The collective contributions of the present work were gathered from both professionals and researchers in fields relating to psychiatry and mental health in Europe. During the last decades major changes were observed in psychiatry practice especially with regards to rehabilitation and reintegration. The TuTo program, a co-financed project by the Erasmus+ strategic projects (2014-2017), was initiated due to a major vocation and reconfiguration crisis in these professions. The objective of TuTo was to be the response to the needs while enabling an exchange and interaction between the professionals and researchers of different European countries and thus creating a multi-sectorial lifelong training "forum". The implementation of the TuTo program was realized in ten European countries engaging more than a hundred different actors. The coauthors of the present work present the analysis of their studies and reflections on experiences carried out in Luxembourg, France, Romania, Belgium, Greece and Germany. This publication is anchored within a mental health promotion and interventional research approach, which is of a multidisciplinary nature illustrating the current challenges the young professionals are facing throughout their lives.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS:Diversity in the psychiatry training program can be hypothesized between countries worldwide. Nevertheless there is a lack of knowledge when further details about these differences are searched. The main aim of the study is to disclose the differences regarding the CAP training program among different countries of different continents. The specific objectives:1) Thepossibility topursue a CAP trainingprogram as specialty differentiated from generalpsychiatry,2) Total years of training,3) The traineesu2019 evaluation methodMETHODS:The European Federation of Psychiatry Trainees represents the consensus of traineeu2019s associations across European countries and advocates for what training should look like regardless of the country. The Child and Adolescent Psychiatry working group designed a cross sectional survey aimed towards early career psychiatrists disclosed online among different countries and continents launched in June 2018. Up until now, 547 trainees and early career psychiatrist have responded the survey from 51 countries around the world. From these, 3 belonged to different countries in America (Brazil, Uruguay, USA), 7 in Asia (Japan, India, Iran, Phillipines, United Arab Emirates, Taiwan, Nepal), 2 in Africa (Morocco Egypt), 1 in Oceania (Indonesia) and 38 from countries within Europe.RESULTS1. The possibility to pursue a CAP training program as specialty differentiated from general psychiatry.Within Europe, only Spain, Malta, Moldavia and Azerbaijan do not have a specific program in child and adolescentpsychiatry. In contraposition, Egypt, Iran, Brazil, Indonesia, Uruguay, Morocco, USA and United Arab Emirates do have CAP as a trainning program either completely separate from general psychiatry or right after aninitial common trunk.2. Total yearsof training. The great majority of the respondants stated to have between 4 and 5 years of training in their programs (38,8% and 32,8 % respectively). While countries suchas Brazil, Ireland and Germany offer a 6 years program, others like Egypt, Russia, Latvia, Ucraine and Azerbaijan can only apply for a two year-long program.3. 3. Trainning program curriculum. According to our results, only Spain, Norway, Sweden, Morocco and Denmark do not have a mandatory final exam while in Japan, this exam is optional. 48,8% of the respondants stated to have mandatory night shifts. Countries such as Iran, Nepal andPhillippines have the higher rates of night shifts per month. Up to 35.29% of the respondants stated to continue with their daily psychiatry clinics after a night shift.DISCUSSION:Major differences can be found across different countries worldwide in terms of the trainning program length, breadthand depth of the curriculum. The estimated worldwide-pooled prevalence of child and adolescent mental health disorders is 13.4%. However a number of countries do not have specialised child and adolescent mental health training programs. It is clear that there is inadequate standardization inCAP training among the countries surveyed. This lack of consistency and uniformity can drive to an impairment of competent CAP professionals.
