Effective Training Of Majority Culture Adults For Mentoring Urban Youth written by Peter Jonathan Bowersox and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018 with Hospitality--Biblical teaching categories.

This project focuses on training suburban Christian adults from a white, middle-class background to effectively mentor urban youth of color from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. It argues that this process is cross-cultural and employs research about cross-cultural communication and understanding in the development of the training program. Positive youth development is a key factor in the process. This project takes seriously a biblical foundation for mentoring and prioritizes a theological understanding of hospitality for helping mentors create welcoming spaces for their mentees. Intercultural skills, development of critical consciousness, and trauma-informed care are important elements of an effective training program.

The Outcast Majority written by Marc Sommers and has been published by University of Georgia Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-12-01 with Social Science categories.

The Outcast Majority invites policymakers, practitioners, academics, students, and others to think about three commanding contemporary issues—war, development, and youth—in new ways. The starting point is the following irony: while African youth are demographically dominant, most see themselves as members of an outcast minority. The irony directly informs young people’s lives in war-affected Africa, where differences separating the priorities of youth and those of international agencies are especially prominent. Drawing on interviews with development experts and young people, Marc Sommers shines a light on this gap and offers guidance on how to close it. He begins with a comprehensive consideration of forces that shape and propel the lives of African youth today, particularly those experiencing or emerging from war. They are contrasted with forces that influence and constrain the international development aid enterprise. The book concludes with a framework for making development policies and practices significantly more relevant and effective for youth in areas affected by African wars and other places where vast and vibrant youth populations reside.

This work provides a healthy, comprehensive counterpoint to the ethnocentrism engrained in the widespread belief that scientific knowledge about education is typically Western. Stressing that the Western 'minority' perspective cannot hold true for the 'majority' of the world population situated outside Europe and North America, this edited volume explores traditional educational theories and practices developed in the majority world to study how they can improve modern schooling globally. Educational Theories and Practices from the Majority World probes the elements of culturally appropriate, quality schooling for various indigenous people in India, the Pacific and the Americas. One of the sections dwells on how to synergise the systems used in modern schools with the ones used in non-Western formal schools linked to religious institutions, such as Koranic, Sanskrit, Buddhist and Vodoo schools. Another section delves into educational policy issues in the context of globalization. This compilation brings together difficult-to-access theories and research by contributors from Africa, Asia, Europe, North America, Oceania, and South America. It is an invaluable resource for policy makers in Education and for students, researchers and academicians studying Education and Anthropology.

Educating the Neglected Majority is Richard Jarrell’s pioneering survey of the attempt to develop and diffuse agricultural and technical education in nineteenth-century Canada’s most populous regions. It explores the efforts and achievements of educators, legislators, and manufacturers as they responded to the rapid changes resulting from the Industrial Revolution. Identifying the resources that the state, philanthropic organizations, private schools, moral reform societies, and churches harnessed to implement technical education for the rural and industrial working classes, Jarrell illuminates the formal and informal learning networks of Upper Canada/Ontario and Lower Canada/Quebec at this time. As these colonial societies moved towards mechanization, industrialization, and nationhood, their educational leaders looked to US and British developments in pedagogy and technology to create academic journals, evening classes, libraries, mechanics’ institutes, museums, specialist societies, and women’s institutes. Supervising these varied activities were legislatures and provincial boards, where key figures such as E.-A. Barnard, J.-B. Meilleur, and Egerton Ryerson played dominant roles. Portraying the powerful hopes and sometimes unrealistic dreams that motivated energetic and determined reformers, Educating the Neglected Majority presents Ontario and Quebec’s response to the powerful industrial and demographic forces that were reshaping the North Atlantic world.

There remains a considerable gap in discussion of Pentecostal theological education in and by the Majority World. This volume seeks to fill that gap and offer ways for such conversations to progress among educators and institutions globally. Theological education may be conceived in broad terms as inclusive of discipleship within the local church, for instance, yet the phrase is used in this volume regarding formal engagement within higher education that is specifically focused on theological development and discipleship within the academic disciplines. This volume takes up an initial foray into the narrow approach in seeking to address those persons, institutions and organizational bodies concerned with the graduate/post-graduate levels of theological education with the intent of a following volume more specific to the undergraduate (bachelor's and certificate) levels of higher education. The further intent is to include a third volume on non-formal theological education, which is critical for the continuance of the global Pentecostal/Charismatic revival. The collection of essays included in this volume represent a diverse authorship globally as seeking to address pertinent issues of Pentecostal theological education in the Majority World. The opening contributions by Gary Munson, Vee J. Doyle-Davidson, and Amos Yong offer introductory observations and underlying theological and socio-cultural underpinnings for better engaging Pentecostal theological education in the Majority World. Dave Johnson and Josfin Raj each carry the conversation into areas of advancing research engagement and maturation that may be imported, local or globalized, and make good use of the tools available in each context. The three chapters by Daniel Topf, Peter White, and Jeremiah Campbell provide histories and prospective futures in several Majority World contexts across regions of Africa and Latin America. A volume such as this would be remiss to not have a contribution speaking to the role of the Holy Spirit in theological education. Temesgan Kahsay provides just such an essay that seeks to consider ways in which the Spirit has and ought to be more directly engaged through the educational processes. The volume is rounded out by the chapter of Dean D. O'Keefe and Jacqueline N. Grey that provides some biblical theological reflections drawn from the exilic and post-exilic texts of the Old Testament as bases for reflecting upon Pentecostal practices in conversation with Scripture.
