The reason that I have written this book is to give you hope of true and lasting transformation. A hope that is built on the grace of God. I have seen, both in my own life as well as in the lives of countless other people, how the power of Jesus Christ heals, restores, transforms, and makes everything new again. This book is an invitation to dive into the depths of God ́s grace and to be transformed by the love of the Father and the finished work of Jesus Christ. It has been my goal to write it in a simple language to make it as accessible and readable as possible, but also to do it in an inspirational way. I have no intention to write a systematic explanation of the grace of God, but to share some of the insights I have gained through the years, as to how we are transformed by the grace of God. Hopefully, this book can be a source of encouragement and comfort for that process. The God of all grace will strengthen and establish you so that you can become everything that He has called you to be!

The Christian life is a journey of spiritual and moral transformation into the glorious image and likeness of God's Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. This journey is lifelong. We begin this journey when we first believe in Jesus, but will not reach our final destination until the final resurrection, when our bodies will be raised, transformed, and glorified, as we are fully and finally conformed to the image of Christ. As with any lengthy journey, sometimes Christians lose their way. We can become disoriented and confused. We mistake the terrain we have already traversed, lose sight of the road on which we tread, and forget the destination to which we travel. Sometimes we take detours. Or we get stuck on the side of the road. All of us sometimes need help. In To Be Like Jesus, Brian G. Hedges provides a series of encouraging road signs-brief meditations, with questions for personal reflection and application, to help you in your journey toward Christlikeness.

When someone becomes a Christian, they enter into a lifelong journey of God-driven transformation into the likeness of Christ. But what does this transformation process look like, and what means does God use to bring about spiritual growth? How does a Christian continue growing spiritually? How do they prevent the practice of the spiritual discipline of meditating on God’s word from become mechanical when they may have read through the Bible many times? How do they mature in prayer? And how do they continue being conformed to the image of Christ for the rest of their lives rather than simply putting their spiritual gearstick into neutral and coasting into eternity? This book seeks to answer such questions. It begins by exploring the contours of this spiritual transformation into Christlikeness before introducing various means God uses to bring this about. The book seeks to give hope and instruction, both to the weary and to the strong, so that they can grow more like Christ through the means of grace that God has provided.

God created us for good works that were planned in ages past. He knew the future and our place in it. While participation is a duty clearly stated in scripture, many Christians are unaware of God’s desire for their mobilization. Others may not be carefully listening for his voice or, regrettably, dismissing him as if their participation is optional. No Christian is exempt from his command to be transformed into spiritual awareness, to grow in biblical knowledge, and in parallel, to participate in the building of his kingdom. The disengaged miss the joy-filled opportunities that enable personal growth through work that fulfills their responsibilities within the church body. The earth is blooming with 7.5 billion souls. More than ever before the entire body must mobilize to effectively represent the stature of Christ. We are his hands, his feet, his fragrance, and his voice in our world. This twelve-week study lays out God’s plan to advance the gospel and discipleship through the work of his redeemed family, endowed by the Holy Spirit with gifts and power to change our world. The study addresses issues that weaken Christian resolve, compete for our attention and time, and even cripple his people. These issues require a serious call to duty.
