Adult social care has emerged as a distinct policy area in the UK and one which has come under increasing scrutiny by government and other bodies. With the expectation that in future many more adults will need care and support, ideas have emerged about a ‘transformation’ of adult social care. The focus of this wide-ranging book is on the major themes in policy and provision including personalisation, integration, user participation, the cost of long term care, risk and safeguarding, care quality and workforce issues and is one of the first texts to deal with adult social care as a distinct entity and is an up-to-date source on contemporary government policies, debates and research. The book encourages readers to think critically about decisions being made and about the direction of future policy. The accessible book will be a valuable resource for undergraduate students in Social Policy, Health and Social Care, and Social Work, those taking advanced vocational qualifications in social care and practitioners.

Health and social care reforms and cuts in services and finances are part of the everyday fabric of the social work landscape. This book takes a critical approach to the transformation agenda and the implications for adult health and social care. Fully informed by theory, research, policy and legislation the book uses a problem-based learning approach through the application of case studies to explain and explore the overlapping roles of social care and social policy. The book argues for the continued significance and importance of social work within the context of adult social care. It shows that social work can make a difference in the lives and experiences of many of the people who are perceived as being the most vulnerable people in society. This text is essential reading for students of social work and social policy, health and social care courses and other professional disciplines, social work educators and practitioners, and managers working in social care.

Long before the unprecedented pressures placed on adult social care by COVID19, it was evident that the challenges being faced by the sector were at risk of overwhelming it. Our targeted discussions on this topic predate COVID19, but we believe that recent events have made the conclusions presented here even more relevant. We are not focused on how to get ever more out of existing arrangements but, rather, on how to innovate. The demand for adult social care in the UK is rising and will continue to rise. But the supply of such care is struggling to keep up. The result is that increasing numbers of people are being left without some of the support they need. Part of the answer to matching supply to demand undoubtedly requires increased public funding. But another important contribution to more closely matching the provision of social care to the demand for it is innovation. Innovation in social care can enable more and better care to be delivered more cost-effectively. The main focus of this Perspective is on ideas to stimulate and sustain innovation in social care; and ideas for research to bring closer a system of sustainable social care innovation. These ideas were generated and discussed in a roundtable workshop organised for Power to Change and facilitated by the authors of this piece of work.

"This book provides an accessible overview of the 'transformation' of Children's Services in England. In doing this, it draws on social theory, critical social policy and takes account of developments in other countries. Paul Michael Garrett argues that the many changes which have taken place within, and beyond, Children's Services are related to the politics of neoliberalism which, it is maintained, lie at the core of the Change for Children programme." --Book Jacket.

Digital Transformation And Social Well Being written by Antonio López Peláez and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-09-16 with Political Science categories.

This is the first book to show how digitalisation and the better provision of information and communication technologies (ICTs) can improve access to a wide-range of social services, as well as make them more inclusive. Overcoming disparities across social groups using contemporary digitalisation models will have lasting consequences on social well-being and human welfare. Reflecting on current trends the authors vividly illustrate the collective, global nature of the challenge that digitalisation represents for providers, administrators and users of welfare services. It is important, therefore, to bear in mind the following for research design and practice: Citizens' rights must be protected Consideration should be given to how the services provided can be improved by more effective use of ICTs Digital interventions require better service coordination in the setting of priorities and specific training in digital skills for service providers and service users The chapters in this book address these problems and challenges in great depth, analysing the role of ICTs in promoting social inclusion and social welfare, drawing on examples of successful ICT applications around the world. The book contains country case-studies from the United States, Brazil, India, the Republic of Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong (China), Zimbabwe, Morocco, Spain, Portugal, Ireland and Singapore and will be of interest to all scholars and students of social policy, to social work educators, and social care providers.
